A new principle

The sonic announcer beeped as soon as the ship was at the established point. Randal-92 waited an entire minute. Then he abandoned the berth and put himself to the job. With expert eye he controlled the position. All was right. Of course, a Maintenance ship always reached the coordinates. But Randal-92, the good Technician, carried out his job conscientiously.

He examined the lights flickering on the wall, singularly in contrast with the darkness of the immense space leaking from the crystals.

He sat down at the console, extended the sensors and ended the controls. The data? Perfect: he could begin the new Production program.

Randal-92 stood up and inserted the golden card. His finger touched lightly the button. While the program started, he recalled the rituale phrase from generations of Creator Technicians.

- Be the light! - he said.

And the light was.
