you pierced the thick veil of night
a single, shining ray of light
leading me back to the shore
to everything i'd waited for

making all the lonliness and pain
all the guilt, all the shame
all the years lost at sea
all the fears inside of me

everything that burdened me
and haunted me in my dreams-
all of it was made worthwhile
the first time i made you smile

------
of all misfortune, the worst kind of fate is to have been happy.

rhetorical beams

lighthouses know not their own light, for they seek out others in the foggy night
They know not of how far their beams reach
Or what they have to other beacons teach
You may have saved the lighthouse of which you write
And probably help guide it to you with your own luminous light
May you know the beams you're giving
may you find peace in your own light living.
