pick a freindly face
Make eye contact with someone you know or looks freindly and then as you get into it look around more. Pick the poem you feel most comfortable with to begin. Don't rush too much or worry if you make a mistake. I always think of it as an experiment. Okay I'll try this..maybe start loud and strong and try to feel the music in the words and vary slightly as I go along. Then. Next start softer but clear enough to draw them in. I don't know if this works for others but I think "aah stuff 'em", I'm going to enjoy myself at least. :)

I have a drawing of Cybele and Sagiritis , the nymph of the almond tree, if you are thinking of something symbolic for your avatar. Cybele was raised by a lioness and leopardess as well so they are very closely linked and powerful allies.

Best of luck
Enjoy it as an experience and something to learn from.

Advice
Get drunk.

Heh. I'm kidding.

All the advice already given is good, so I'll just echo 'break a leg', and have a good time. :D

good luck today
Good luck today Cybele.

Yes pen's right. Nymph's are wonderful spirits of the tress, forests, seas, rivers, etc. and I do love my natural symbols. Also in biology they are the stage some insects go through after hatching and before their wings are fully grown. ;)
Have fun

Sorry I didn't get a chanc tput my two cents in on what you should read, but I can say this...poem readings are great places to get used to talking in front of people because they're usually pretty friendly. Have faith in yourself and project cool confidence. Other than that, I'm sure you'll do wonderfully! Take care. =D
