muscle will not save you:
years, or waiting, or a moment's accident -

brain will not save you:
shadows behind the eyes -

men lay stone
and other men
unlay them;
all personal accounts
end with a healer's testament
of time, and cause, and hopelessness -
wind in the grasses -
behind thin, high clouds,
the cycles of the southward-wending sun -

if your simple treasure is the love you chose,
you have a welcome for
the visitor in the night,

yet then, your only hope will scatter all you hope:
no stay will be granted for the flesh -

Angel of understanding
Dear John,

Thank you for this deep and profound piece. It is written in such an unusual way and I found it to be so thought provoking. Please share more with me about how you came to write poetry and develop your style. I am fascinated!

windy plains
This reminded me of the Great Plains (which encompass part of the state I call home), very full of ancient-feeling knowledge. I think you could stand to be a bit less vague, but all in all I enjoyed this read, as usual with your work. =D
