I thought I was free, but what is freedom really?
just a concept I've lost touch with
a word missing every grain of meaning

well there's no fence
there's no cameras
there's no counting
...both on and off the clock

there's no sea of pine green clothing
there's no one to make sure
...you're not stepping out of line

now on the outside
I feel each breath is only a trap
I see hills rolling onwards forever,
but this life has me caged up in my mind

there is just no escaping
the measurement of time
and daylight and of night

weighing our gold
do I have enough to buy my way out?

I take pills to cure me,
but I only feel nauseous with pain
each day greets me, but I stay laying in bed
with covers and sheets hiding me from them

and I know I just can't ignore
all the questions they keep asking me
all the worry in their eyes
all the words they say to help
end up pushing me further away anymore

now on the outside I can see
I'll never be free, I'll never know freedom
