He has
basketball eyes
in a baseball head,
a carrot top
bleached by the summer sun,
a huckleberry grin
that's been known to spread,
A frog in his pocket,
a worm in his hand.
And he's off to the creek
where the tadpoles swim
to play and cavort
with his best friend Clem.
He stops at the apple tree
and climbs to the top
to get a view
of the rabbits and such.
When the Injuns have all passed
(the crows on the hedge)
he hoops and he hollers
he's a legend it's said.
Adventure and danger
are common place things
faced by him daily
in his boyhood dreams.
