They say that Nature’s nature is to be
unreasonably determined to hide
her deepest secrets, wrapped in mystery
where they are glimpsed but seldom verified.

Perhaps, like any lady, Nature should
be wooed, not forced to capitulation,
or she may always be misunderstood
as stubborn, resisting violation.

Perhaps dissection and atom smashing
are not the paths to full comprehension,
since what we learn by crashing and slashing
is residue – not our true intention.

If our procedure’s more reverential,
we may more quickly learn what’s essential.

The quickest way for me to learn something new is to first understand why I'd like to learn it.
