And We Too

From Gun Sight Pass
east to the Dragoons, the sky islands,
as far west as the Boboquivari range, virga rain

dangled like veils almost from heaven,
mysterious shards of light flashing,
dissolving like ice cycles.

No way we could be sour with the huge armada
of blue cumulous clouds
anchored above the western peaks

and the one we knew only as Amil
smiling with his whole face,
that even the lizards seemed happier for it.

When twin rainbows appeared
Amil wept and smiled,
and the lizards wept and smiled,

The worst thing in the world is the homesickness that comes over a man occasionally when he is at home.

- E. W. Howe

I've been away wallowing in another venue for the past while and thought I'd drop in for a spell to check out some of my favs. This made me think of The Ballad of Yucca Flats - George Barker
And the brittle lizards scooted
Among the brimstone rocks
And the gilah monsters watched them
With eyes like little clocks.
thanks Pen. I have a really great photo that fits this, but I guess it can't be uploaded unless I shrink it down to avatar size. Yes, the lizards have something to say out here in the desert.

I've been off line for quite a while too.
