Well, now thereís a new collection of Chinese Zodiac poems on the market! Back in 2010 when I was looking for a suitable cover I came upon a gorgeous Chinese Zodiac Wheel. The image had a copyright tag on it so I contacted the siteís owner for information on how to get permission to use it. The owner, Xun Pan, told me that the image was centuries old and in the public domain. I happily took it from there and worked it into a great cover image. Xun Pan also helped me with a Chinese translation I wanted to add to the cover for some added eye appeal. Cover of Zodiac Zoo
From October 2010 until October 2012 I heard nothing from Xun Pan. Then, I receive an e-mail asking if I would be interested in allowing my twelve villanelles from my book to be used on a 2013 calendar. I was so delighted I offered to write a new set which would better reflect the whimsical nature of the cut-paper art work illustrations. The offer was happily accepted and I set about composing 12 new villanelles which I completed fairly quickly. By this time Iíd discovered Xun Pan was a gentleman. We reached a speedy agreement on copyright issues and how I would be paid for my poems. I offered to help publicize the launching of the calendar and so, here I am spreading the word!
2013 Year of the Snake Each brilliantly illustrated month features a villanelle written by yours truly. I canít tell you how delighted I am to have taken part in this venture.
If you are Canadian and wish to order this calendar, send me a PM and I will provide you with a promotional code kindly offered by Mr. Pan to offset the shipping charges.

I appreciate you bringing that up Bea! I hadn't thought about it but you are right! Mr. Pan was quite prepared to pay me for my poetry and in essence he did because I took payment in product rather than money. I advised him that it would be difficult for me to pur a value on my work but a sort of barter would benefit both of us. I would be able to circulate the calendar for next to nothing and he'd get a promotion of the same due to his website being listed. All this due to a couple of swapped e-mails back in 2010.
Great job Pen! The calendar looks amazing. I took a long break from writing and this site. It seems a lot of people have decided to take a vacation, this site used to explode with new stuff everyday. The excuse I'm using is that I have been real busy with army stuff. Seriously though, congrats! I wish you more success this new year.
