Watch a fish foraging
On submerged, open shore,
investigating its environment.

If what attracts its curiosity
reveals camouflaged hostility,
it quickly swims away.

An alien intelligence engaged in exploration
might view Earth as poisonous and stinging,
and steer clear, leaving us alone.

inner, middle, outer
A very nice journey from inner space to outer space, with a brief nod to middle space (earth).

It reminds me of one of my all time favorite writer, Ray Bradbury, may he rest in peace.

Bradbury was not a poet, but his writing was very poetic in many ways -- this poem brings to my mind exactly the image you intend -- that alien metal fish hovering over earth, smelling a paper mill then turning and vanishing back to the surface of space. very sparse but creative writing indeed.

Interstellar
There was a predator lurking by
An alien to boot
One dropped in by an alien race
Wanting resources and loot

A tiny thing climbed in the startled fish
A lovely place to breed
Mutating nasty toothy alien things
With a whole biosphere on which to feed

When everything in the sea is gone
They'll climb up on the land
Making messy meals of all of us
Just pets at their master's hand

Love your second poem more then the first one. It kinda reminds me what this world could be like one day.
