The wild red poppy
Soldiers are so brave and so loyal
they bleed just the same as the rest
Woman or man they stand back to back
it's the reason their leaders invest
Invest lies with their time and effort
invest lies when the war goes wrong
Stand side by side but run and hide
leaders of war sing a different song
Song penned for the fearless warrior
song they must never falter and hide
Then facing a gun is never much fun
or facing the stupid rules they abide
Abide while falls a steadfast man
abide this tragic life given to fight
In sad wars that have no exit plan
for no war can shine a clear light
Light up the sky as realities dawn
light up dreams the survival of man
Old or new game is always the same
raked up by leaders just hanging on
On poppy day remember the living dead
on surviving without support from God
Those that are left are people bereft
living the death of the winner is odd
Odd then that nobody won the war
odd then what was the fighting for?
Both sides lost when counting cost
who in hell was keeping the score
Score was kept by the wild red poppy
score that is worn over your heart
Paid for in cash after war has trashed
any free life it had purposed to start
