Another YearÖAnother Birthday!

I have a secret admirer
He goes wherever I go
I try to hide from him
But heís a persistent beau
Iíve tried to outwit him
Have done so for years
Bur he always shows up
As my birthday nears

When I was a young girl
He intrigued me so
But now that Iím older
He has to go!
Heís relentless, obstinate
And to my chagrin
I know for a fact
That one day heíll win!

I try to ignore him
Pretend heís not there
But itís my 84th Birthday
OhÖit just isnít fair!
But Iíll not give in
Iím still in my prime
My unwelcome guest
Is Old Father Time

I eat my veggies
I cream my face
And I exercise
At a ferocious pace
Iím one step ahead
But heís closing in
If I make it to 100
Then we both shall win!

Second verse, not the same as the first...
As my hero, greeting card/children's book author/songwriter Sandra Boynton, said many years ago, Hippo Birdie Two Ewes!

And I'm sorry, I can't resist singing the oft-forgotten second verse:

Hope you get some tonight!
Hope you get some tonight!
Hope you get some cake and i-i-i-ice cre-e-e-eam!
Hope you get some tonight!

Have a delightful day, and many more to come!

I lurk!
...which is to say I pop in and out to see what's new here. The good news is that my band is busier than ever, which requires my very best shameless self-promotion of same. The bad news is that as a result, writing has pretty much gone by the wayside for the time being.

Delighted that you're still at it! Carry on, Grandma Bea!

Happy Belated
Happy Belated Birthday!
Great poem.
I don't think Old Father Time can keep up with you. :)

All the best,
Sandra
