It's funny
when you realize you're dead

rigor mortis
set in months ago
you're just so used
to the warm butter
and avid readers
that you slipped away
by close friends
distant family
and your own keen sense
of rationality

those you've bitten
left to turn
somehow wind their souls
back to their casques
and return to work
and the malls they haunt

Hello Jesus
I didn't expect to find you here
all wrapped up in your
Turin blanket
snuggled all warm
for a long winters nap

It's funny
when you realize it's over
and those distant stars
will always be
distant stars
