Alcoa Aluminum just announced that it had recorded record profits this year amid lower costs to produce their product.

Of course they did.

Why?

I'll tell ya.

There are numerous reports across the US that thieves are stealing aluminum from any source available
including but not limited to:

air conditioner units
guard rails
roofing- still attached to the roofs
siding from mobile homes and travel trailers
wheels
car bumpers
bicycles
ski poles
bleacher seating
pots and pans
aluminum power lines

and so on.

Scrap buyers buy at lower prices because the thieves aren't going to complain if they don't have to explain. Scrap buyers sell for less because they bought for less, simple economics my dear Watson.

And we wonder why insurance rates are high.

On a more serious note, people are getting increasingly desperate.
Good, honest people are stealing to buy gas and food just to feed their families. It will get much worse.

Put a guard dog on your air conditioner unit. (if it's not too late)

So what you're saying is...
... Insurance companies are behind the current spate of aluminium thefts in an effort to raise premiums, probably working in conjunction with dishonest scrap merchants?

My word! Where did I put that poodle?

In all seriousness, cracking read.

Got Change?
Over the past several years, schools and churches from metro Atlanta to Orlando to Houston to Yuma have had to replace air conditioner units- some more than once. Theft of fuel from school buses and work vehicles has increased, as well. Drug abuse is blamed for much of it. The economic demise throughout America has led some normally law abiding citizens to thievery, as well.

In many parts of the country, gangs will steal professional lawn maintenance equipment for resale [to finance their start-up drug trafficking].

The continued spread of "ice" [crystal methamphetamine], crack cocaine, oxycontin and the reemergence of heroin [thanks largely to the US militarization of Afghanistan], has led to an increase in robbery, burglary, auto theft, gang related crime, etc..

Drug abusers will steal anything they can resell.

The Southern US border being like a sieve, has enabled drug traffickers to flood the States with their wares.

Entire American communities would probably revolt, if not for the fact they are sedated and weakened by rampant drug and alcohol addictions.

Theft and Metals
But guys the unemployment number is going down, it's just a little over 400,000 a month since 2008. Egad,I don't have enough fingers to count how many people have lost their jobs.)

We all get poorer and the mega-rich are re-evaluating their portfolios, while disingenuous politicians pretend to be worried and argue over whether or not to tax private jets.

One thing to say, and I do so loving my country, is that there seems to be an aversion to the truth these days, on both sides of the aisle - or they are telling the truth to each other and then agreeing to lie to us. Seems it has always been that way. Either way I worry about us all.

Thanks for spinning me up!

Revenue v Spending*
The Federal Government of the United States of America has grown to the point of being an obese entity; incompetent and corrupt.

The #1 priority of the career politicians is to get reelected. Even the president has already begun campaigning again, raising an enormous amount of cash. I think the President should be elected for a single six-year term. That's enough time to get some things done without doing too much damage-plus, they wouldn't be spending half their time raising money to get reelected. Memebers of the Senate and Congress should have their terms limited, as well. Change/fresh blood is good.

*Revenue isn't the problem- spending is.

Presently, the top 10% pay 70% of the Federal taxes collected.
The middle 40% [middle class] pays 30%.
The bottom 50% pay ZERO Federal income taxes.

There is now a generational entitlement mentality within a growing segment of the population. It's a sad state of affairs.

Victims
Now people are getting electrocuted for stealing high transmission power lines. They cut in and get fried and the media calls them victims. How is the thief a victim if he is killed stealing copper?
I hate the liberal media. They will spin anything to make bad, good.

Perhaps the fried folks were good, but you didn't hear about these stories when the evil Bush was prez. (I ain't sayin' it didn't happen, I'm just sayin' you didn't hear about it.)

Things are getting revolutionary kind of interesting. I pray it doesn't come to that.

FEDel & CHEameless..
Without firing a shot [at least in the States], a revolution has been occurring within America over the past two decades..

Cuba found out what happens when the government becomes omnipotant- running every facet of the population's lives. So did the Soviets. Personally, I loathe the thought of that.

An armed struggle to prevent it would be met with FEMA, Homeland Security, the FBI- not to mention our young men and women in uniform, under the flags of NATO and the United Nations. So, forget about that.

Private Contractors*
I forgot the 150,000 *hired guns employed by the Department of Defense. They're paid up to eight times as much [by you, the taxpayer] as our own uniformed military personnel. They've been active in Iraq and Afghanistan. They could easily be utilized in your town.

Patriots we
There are a growing number of military, law enforcement, and first responders, not to mention hicks like myself who would not obey orders to fire upon or jail revolutionaries to bring us into constitutional compliance. The group is called Oathkeepers and they are serious minded folk. I am not a member, but I believe in the principles they espouse.

The real question is: do we wait for the marxists to come and get us?(in which case I die)
or do we go after them?(in which case I probably die) It's a win win as far as I'm concerned.
