Maturity Bekons

No longer do I have to work,
though more money would be nice,
I only have to sit here
and to take my own advice.
There’s more to life than money
though it’s now quite hard to see
why still I feel I have to seek
a job that’s paying me.

It’s the habit of a life time
or so I have been told,
and working is the thing you do
until you’re very old.
So does it mean I’m old now,
as the mirror tells me so
or just that I’ve matured at last,
I really do not know.

Maturity, I reckon
I achieved at sweet sixteen,
from then I’ve just been living
to fill in the time between
my teens and my retirement
though I had a bit to do,
it seems I have arrived at last
now working days are through.

Now I must fill a different time
from now until I’m dead,
starting every single day
until I go to bed.
But maybe I’ll get lucky
now my duty has been done
and find I like the freedom
of just sitting on my bum!

Ivor G Davies

It lives the full spectrum of time, the future, the present and past.

What retirement!!!
Welcome to the club Ivor! Great poem as usual.

Now...if you're like me...you do as much, if not more work than before...only difference is...you do it gratis!

Seems people are always asking your advice on everthing...cajoling you to join this or that cause, then you wind up doing everyone's job for them...because...you know..."You've had so much experience in this field!"

NO was never a word in my vocabulary...but I'm learning to use it frequently now!

Happy retirement.

Truth is funny
Reminds me to ask myself why I put up with the stress of the job. Almost makes me want to quit tomorrow, but I still need the money.

Love the humor, for that keeps us all moving forward when little else will.

Work

Hard Work is only when you are doing things you dont like.

The rest is All Fun.

Hence I claim to have done very little hard work in my lifetime......so far

Then again...School was Hard Work for me and I didnt get paid for it.

As for physical exertion .... anyone want to run or cycle with me is more than welcome...... I enjoy that sort of stuff.....

If you're taking your own advice ...
I don't think you'll be sitting on your bum much. Happy Birthright!

Happy Birthday Ivor!
Happy Birthday my friend, here's to many, many more....but as for me:

Birthday Blues

We/ve reached that point in life
when birthdays should be banned
There's nothing "happy" about it
It's a plot that nature planned

I hate those cheery funny cards
With a million candles on the cake
As for that surprise party
It should really be a wake!

There should be cries of misery
And wailing should abound
for another year has been lost
and will never again be found

so forget the party hats
Ignore the date instead
Pretend it's just another day
And spend the day in bed!
