A writer walks into a bar...
...and says, ''Rats! Here I stand without a punch line! Blasted writer's block!''

I'll have a Robitussin toddy, please, as I seem to have picked up some form of upper respiratory crud that's going around. Lacking that, I'd happily settle for something strong enough that I'll no longer care! **COUGH COUGH!!**

Nice place! Do I come here often?

Penelope! No eating the Koi! You can stroll down to the water (just a block away), and cast off the pier.

Here, have a Pellegrino, with a lemon wedge.

invitation accepted
Thanks for the invite to your soiree! Who will take the mic and recite a poem, tell a joke or sing???

( Posted by: sandra [Member] On: March 31, 2011 )

Flying visit...
Thank you for the deliciously tempting invite to enjoy the party... I would love nothing more :)

However, I would be poor company, likely dropping my head into some concotion and salting it with tears of sadness and frustration.

I wanted to come back to Lit when I saw the beautiful familiar names/faces that have inspired me since 2004 - but sadly my mother has cancer and we are in month 9 after being told she had only 6 months... tough and very demanding times. (strangely... much as it was in 2004 when my father too had cancer and it was Lit that was my sanity, my haven and my solace).

Not beaten, not giving up and not without hope - but entirely without time :( Italy beckons for a final shot at treatment (within the next crucial 2 weeks) that I have some faith in... when we return, I will visit Lit again and hope to find the bar still open, a stunning cocktail at the ready and a handsome waiter to serve me.

Till then I bid you farewell and cheers, I will toast you from Rome.

Namaste,

Tina Louise

pierless
last time I fished off the pier I caught a sunbathing Pekinese and the owner chucked me into the brine ..

There once was a swain name of Howell
who spread his charm thick with a trowel.
At both ends he burned bright
night after night
until the ladies had to throw in the towel.

To Ken's heartfelt song

Liguid offerings
Francisco walks in and immediately walks out when he realizes he's overdressed. Having removed a few layers of clothing, he waltzes back in and heads for the bar. Orders a Long Island Iced Tea and walks away without leaving a tip. Blames it on Lucie's recent rant. He then makes his way to the table with the least dressed ladies and proceeds to make a fool of himself hoping one will take pity and then take him home. He laughs at their hip jokes and looks around bored, tempted by the empty stage. He gives up on the pity fuck and returns to the bar where the bartender eyes him suspiciously. Orders a second Iced Tea and leaves without tipping. Yells out "someone please put on some Zeppelin!" and gets a hell yea from the lady who didn't put out. He spots Bea hitting on Ken - whose wife does not look amused. Bea gives Francisco the ol' granny eye that says "don't you dare ruin what I got going on" and then looks away. Francisco downs his drink and heads for the bar again. The bartender smiles as he hands him his drink. Francisco suspects foul play and makes his way to Ken's table where he proceeds to switch his drink with Bea's because that's what she gets for being mean. But he's caught by Lucie who gives him the no no no finger. Francisco shrugs innocence and walks to the restroom where he hears moaning from the next stall. He spots snake skin shoes that he is convinced belong to Bobby but you didn't hear it from me. After a few shakes he leaves the restroom without washing his hands and heads back to the bar where he apologizes to the bartender and shakes his hand. He gets a drink on the house and is suddenly distracted by a woman dancing on a table. Her heads whips from side to side, out of sync with the music, and he suddenly realizes it Pen! Smiling, Francisco makes his way back to the woman who didn't put out. Eh, he figures why not. He tries making small town but is drowned out by Pen's hooting and hollering - which suddenly stops when someone new enters the bar. A tall, thin man enters as if he owns the place. The woman Francisco was trying to woo suddenly dismisses him and a moment later is draped on the tall stranger's arm.

Before leaving dejected, Francisco is heard mumbling, "...that damn, Shannon."

Francisco!
Welcome to G's.

Note #1: I'm the bartender/proprietor.
Note #2: Always tip your bartender.
Note #3: I have a private bathroom in my office.
Note #4: Please, wash your hands.

I haven't seen Lucie and Penelope for awhile. They may have strolled down to the pier. Pen wished to fish.

Ken was playing some tunes out in the gazebo. A newcomer to Lit, Victoria, may be out on the deck.

Note #5: I make a killer Long Island Iced Tea.

Thanks for stopping in.

Just stopped by
Bobby L opened G's down by the docks
Kinda nice been there twice
A place to let your hair down

The Man's okay and pours an honest one
got a gift, he can riff
Makes you feel like you matter

The frequenting Ladies are a little rowdy
No tears in their beers
No wool pullin' over those worldly eyes

They got this singer out on the deck
Old leather hard weathered
Likes to sing a song to make you cry

All in all I'll probably stop back by
Old man playing and Bobby's saying
A new kinda grace over a shot and beer

I bow!

No You Don
Hey Francisco...stop raining on my parade! There's a shortage of Mature, sophisticated men of the world around here and a girls got to have some fun!

But its a solemn rule with me...don't poach on someone else's property! Johnpenny and I were just discussing putting some other poems to music...HONEST! (But he is real cute I must admit!!)

Darling Tina Louise...my dear friend...My heart goes out to you as you walk this terrible journey.
I thought you were just busy with all you new great activities and didn't have time to join us at this time.

As it was with your father...know that we are here for you to give you courage, or a respite from all your stress. It goes without saying that we are all pulling and praying for you both.

God's will be done, but there is always hope!
Will e-mail you privately.

Love ya as always,

Bea after-hours
Bea,
These kids can't keep up with you. They just can't/don't pace themselves..

I'd say this calls for a special concoction.

Raspberry Lemon Drop

2oz Absolut Vodka
1/2oz Chambord Black Raspberry Liqueur
2tsp Lemon juice
2tsp Sugar
Several fresh raspberries
Lemon slice

Moisten rim of chilled cocktail glass with a little lemon juice and dip in 1/2 the sugar to frost. Mix vodka and remaining lemon juice & sugar in shaker with ice. Shake and strain into the glass. Float Chambord on top. Drop in a couple fresh raspberries. Garnish with a lemon slice.

Enjoy.

I need a drink!!
After staggering home [when I found my left boot that some scoundrel with a foot fetish absconded with] I discovered my abode had been invaded by one irrational mouse! What mouse in their right mind hides out under the cat food bowl??? I knew there was at least one mouse holed up in the air ducts because Pandora [my Siamese] would sit by the register at intervals .... mesmerized by inaudible [to me] noises and undetectable [to me] smells. Last night ... mouse decided to go on a safari and the food it choose was cat food! Says a lot about my floors being bereft of crumbs I suppose. So .. here's Panda .. chasing the damn mouse all over the place and not knowing what to do with it when she'd catch it. Mouse would scamper along the walls and make valiant attempt to dive back into the ducts but couldn't remember, in its panic riddled state, the proper method of accessing them. Panda would chase the mouse .. then mouse would 'hide' .. in the curtains .. behind the TV ... and .. of all places .. under the cat food dish! This mouse had a death wish I'm sure. I finally gave up on Panda's ability to dispatch said mouse and joined in the chase using ingenious methods of entrapment which had nothing to do with peanut butter or sticky tape .. or those stupid mouse traps which are useless. This mouse was a field mouse variety so it's house habits were pathetic. I finally .. after a couple of hours of planning ... got the mouse pinned by it's tail and then .. is anyone squeamish here ??
well .. I grabbed a facecloth and gently picked up the mouse using a towel buffer. Panda and Calamity were both there completing my hunting party .... then I carried the facecloth .. after inspecting the feet of the mouse to make sure she/he had them all .. and opened the door and released him/her on my porch. The mouse was so relieved it ran right off the porch and dived into the ground cover and scurried under the bird feeder platform. In my salad days I would have killed the damn thing! What's happened to me??? What's happened to cats???? Are they totally without the skills to deliver the coup de grace?

*pours myself a tumbler full of Connemara Irish whiskey that I brought from home and will donate to the bar.*

1/4oz Apple schnapps

Tale of Chasing Tail
Penelope,
That's cracked "ice"..I'm still getting the place organized this morning.

( Posted by: Bobby7L [Member] On: April 1, 2011 )

slainte ....
I didn't get a wink of sleep last night and sobered up quite rapidly what with the cat and mouse capers ...

Always drink my whiskey neat and in moderation so I'm nursing this one ... a sip at a time ...

thanks for the kind ear Bobby .. sometimes .. that's all that's needed ...

I never could depend on the males in my life to battle invaders ... well .. maybe I never gave any of them a chance because I was too busy reacting in useful ways ...

Once when one of my better hunting cats .. Mocha [another Siamese] was doing a number on a bird she'd brought in ... the bird got away from her and flew ... sorta .. into the bathroom .. I shut the door with me inside to 'rescue' said bird and the stupid thing plastered itself against the door ... Mocha .. being on the other side ... was mauling the poor thing by sliding her clawed paw under the door ... that 'rescue' didn't have as happy an ending.

Then ... my prize hunting cat .. Sam [Samantha] she killed an owl that mistook her for a morsel. Sam was so brave she even took on the neighbor's curious Clydesdale when it stuck its nose a little too close and got it seriously scratched .. now .. all I've got are a pair of wussy cats.

Is there a Doctor in the house?
Hi Bobby...I think you are doing such a good job here helping is get our daily dose of Antioxidents and vitamin C!

Those citrus and berry libations are just what the Doctor ordered! Now I'm sure the vodka and schnapps are an added bonus.

Actually, other than the good company, lively atmosphere and good looking guys, that's the only reason I come here! You know...health reasons!

I get we should be calling you Doctor Bobby!
By the way...do you take Medicare patients??

( Posted by: Beatrice Boyle [Member] On: April 1, 2011 )

Not My Fault!
Sorry folks...those typos are not my fault...I think Bobby put a little extra lemon juice in my drinks tonight!

A little lighter hand please sir...I am not as young as I used to be!

On the town!
Come to Bobby's
The invite said
On Lit.org's
Brand new thread.
I love to party
So lead the way
But I'm broke this week
Hope I don't have to pay!

Wow...look at this place
A classy joint
(Mind my manners
I musn't point!)
Soft low lights
Flowers galore
A lovely terrace
I must see more

Oh, here's our host
Dear Bobby L
"Great job here Bobby
You've done quite well
I like what I see
The place looks fine
But the real test comes
When I taste the wine!"

Who is that sitting
On the bench
Oh it's Pen
My favorite wench
Here comes Lucie
With Sam in tow
I'll ask where the bar is
They will know!

There's Pablo and Brian
Chugging it down
Chris and Erin
Out on the town
Francisco's chatting
With a sexy babe
And Bobby's pouring drinks
With Gordon and Abe

Well good night folks
I've had a ball
Chatting and getting
To know you all
But those antioxidents
Are pounding my head
So I think I'll leave now
And go to bed

I hope we meet
Again some time
Tonight for me
Has been sublime
A toast to Bobby
You are the best
And your wine my friend
Passed the test!

So call me cab
Lest I fall
Until the next time
I love you all!

I had to run down to the produce market. We've been going through lemons and limes.

Would you care for a nice plate of fresh cheese, with apple and pear slices?

Beatrice Boyle
Hey Bobby...thanks for the lift
But I must tell you
I'm a little miffed
You're driver, that handsome
Old grey haired guy
All the way home
Gave me the eye
Now I don't flirt
With just any gent
Especially when
He hasn't spent a cent
I've got my pride
My standards are high
But he WAS cute
I won't deny!
But next time Bobby
Try to see
If you can find a guy
Much younger than me!

Singapore Breweries
Well, in my mail
I heard a tale
that while I was away
a Bistro, Bar or Public House
was where Lit's poets play.
While soaking up the devil's brew
which they feel is their right
as they relax from pushing pens
througout their darkest night.

I am not sure if I should pass
through alcohol's domain,
as Englismen drink mainly tea
their status to maintain.
But if you're serving 'Tiger Beer'
(a habit from Far East)
then I'm afraid I must succumb
and join your liquid feast!

My reputation will be shot
if spirits you supply,
brandy also is my tickle
(for most wines are far too dry).
But I hope you'll keep my secret
if I enter in your door
for next to 'rhyming' poetry
tis 'TIGER' I adore!

( Posted by: ivordavies [Member] On: April 2, 2011 )

After half a pint.....
"I dont care how much I love you", said Tes to Fred Tickle, "I am not marrying you and having your surname"!

Apologies to Willy Blake
And as I float into the arms of relaxation I think I may have been influenced by William Blake???

...............................

Tiger! Tiger! nectar bright
In Bobby's G's served every night,
This writer's dry and rusty throat
will always get the best beer's vote

In what distant cans or kegs
awaits the brew that my thirst begs?
On what wings dare one aspire?
When filling tastbuds with desire?

And what flavour, and what head
could twist the passions that are lead?
as each pint washes all we eat
to find we float above our feet .

What the hops? what the malt?
made perfect beer without a fault?
Fine tankard or pint glass to clasp
to keep it safely in our grasp.

When jungle folk threw down their spears,
and water fell from heaven like tears,
Did they smile their work to see
when brewing beer as good as thee?

Tiger! Tiger! burning bright
From the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Dare frame thy fearful symmetry?

G's the beer's gud here, hic.....

I wasn't here
Author's Note:
thinking in the wee small hours when the mind isn’t on remote control

shush! well .. nobody’s here but I shouldn’t create a disturbance anyhow ... lucky for me Bobby gave me that VIP pass and the door’s never locked .. where’s that bottle of Connemara Irish whisky? ... aha! Now one of those beautiful tumblers that Bobby chose that are grey smoke glass at the bottom ... eureka! Now for a couple of fingers and out to the deck where the air is clear and the stars are bright

Author's Note:
talking to the koi

I’ve left Panda and Calamity at home not that you’d be at risk because neither of them have any predator skills and both seem to believe in the catch and release practice judging by the mouse mayhem the other night. sip ... sip ... small shudder ....

hang on .. I’m going to slip off my gumboots and dabble my toes so we’re both somewhat in the same element which is more conducive for conversing..... I’ll sit on that rock ... over there .. won’t you join me?

ahhhh ... lovely! Now, I suppose you know that Island dwellers are slightly odd .. not the whacko weirdness of wilderness folks of course but they’re a mite off kilter in a quirky sort of way. Take my mayor for instance. Don’t know where he came from but he’s got pointy ears and I’ve become convinced he’s other worldly. When the feds implemented the economic stimulus offers back in 2008 and offered incentives to communities across the country our town chose to build a sports field and cleared acres and acres of land close to where I live. I now have a view which would reveal the ocean if I was tall enough. Well, they told us it was a sports complex but I’ve got serious doubts due to unexplainable decisions which rival the water conservation choices the council made a few years ago. Conserving water in a rain forest seems illogical because whatever we save won’t be exported to arid regions and what with the polar ice caps melting sea levels will be raised which will cause global havoc in the decades to come.

oh .. back to my alien mayor .. see .. this sports complex is on an elevated area of our community and it’s close to the transmission lines that carry power to heaven knows where ... there are towers with banks of high intensity lights which are programmed to turn on each week night after dark for two hours. Two of these towers, which are a couple of blocks away can be seen from my front window .... I’ve become convinced they are emitting subliminal ‘messages’ to the heavens and that the mayor got his orders from extra terrestrials to build a landing pad for his ‘people’ to come and invade earth. When the town circulated a self congratulatory blurb about the complex which they enclosed in the quarterly water bill mailing they located it at the end of ‘Fourth Avenue Extension’ .... I didn’t know how they could do that because that end of town is developed to the inth degree so I was confused. It took me two days to discover that the town had erred and it was at the end of Fourth Avenue which is close by. When I called the town hall I was cheerfully told it must have been a ‘typo’. How can a nine letter word be a typo? It took me a few months of being exposed to rows of high beams night after night to realize the mayor had gotten the quadrants for the development from earth gazers and he’d known to switch it around so it matched but had left the original work order lying around and some poor plod had used it for cascading information to residents of my town. I wrote the mayor a letter about the wasted electricity and asked why that was okay when our resources weren’t limitless and probably cost us a great deal of expense. That was months ago and I still haven’t gotten a reply even though I was assured by the staff that he enjoys receiving letters and will respond. No! Of course I didn’t call him an alien!

So, now all I’m waiting for is the influx of scientists with high fidelity boom boxes and the reams of ‘tourists’ who are ‘believers’ in ‘close encounters’. It’s only a matter of time and thankfully they can’t simply drive here so the ferries may be a deterrent for the less convinced.

hey .. thanks for listening and of course this is just between me and you fishies ... strictly confidential and all that jazz ....

night ... I’ll make sure I turn the patio lanterns off when I leave and wash my glass too ...

Tori on French drinking
Avez-vous déjà essayé le vin de pommes ?
Have you ever tried apple wine?

L'éponge a absorbé toute l'eau.

Tori's Berlitz of drinking

basically an advice on how to seduce a young woman.
independently of the above, the French - not yoru typical fans of English literature - have been known to say:
"Les bonbons, c'est très bon, mais avec le champagne, ça magne !" and
"Les chocolats (et les fleurs), c'est (très) bien, mais l'alcool, c'est mieux".

the French thought must have permeated into English-speakers' consciousness

- I can't keep up with you. you're being British. Do you do British crossword puzzles, like my brother Eijuszik?

and now from a woman's POV, my - and You know Who's favorite Lord Byron, every line so yummy:

Whilome in Albion's isle there dwelt a youth,
Who ne in virtue's ways did take delight;
But spent his days in riot most uncouth,
And vexed with mirth the drowsy ear of Night.

Ah, me! in sooth he was a shameless wight,
Sore given to revel and ungodly glee;
Few earthly things found favour in his sight
Save concubines and carnal companie,
And flaunting wassailers of high and low degree.

- Childe Harold's Pilgrimage: A Romaunt. CANTO THE FIRST, II

I love the language, that soft bastard Latin,
Which melts like kisses from a female mouth,
And sounds as if it should be writ on satin
With syllables which breathe of the sweet South.

the other day when I dropped by the PO to buy another express envelope for my passport app .. I was standing in the line up and this fellow began making enquiries as to who owned the truck parked outside ...

I thought .. oh hell .. what have I done now

the clerks, all of whom I know well, were not helpful so I finally piped up and asked him how come he was doing a who owns a red truck survey

he confessed it was exactly the kind of truck he wanted except for the colour ..

he was astounded to discover the truck he was coveting belonged to a woman even though it's one sexy non gender specific vehicle ..

he followed me out and .. began quizzing me .. I told him all there was to tell about year.. price .. and how I'd factory ordered it to get exactly what I wanted [except for the colour - I wanted that copper shade but it wasn't available and now they won't do a custom colour for free]

When I told Wendy about the conversation she said she'd seen me talking to him and did I know his wife was sitting in their sedan all the time. Actually I hadn't because I wasn't all that interested in whether he was 'spoken' for .. I figured any man who pined after a truck instead of getting in gear wasn't a viable option.

I did notice he was wearing a Sannich police windbreaker .. not uniform issue so .. here's me thinking .. probably retired officer ... not very good at doing 'investigations' either .. another island trait .. no clandestine skills whatsoever .. no get up and go .. gawd .. it's a wonder they ever solve anything ...

have you fed the fishies today?

Stopped in G's

The place has liven-ed up a bit
A boisterous crowd all so endearing
I'll pull up a stool and sit awhile
To watch drunken poets intercalating

Bobby, I'll have a Gin and infused tonic
While I try to absorb the pontifications
Every word sublime like golden dewdrops
Magically born from your artful libations

I have been out of town and unconnected
To stand on the sunny San Fransico bay
Family concerns weighing on me heavily
'Tis nice to have another place to play

I'm sure I'll write another lamenting tune
I'll play and sing it here at G's, Bobby's room

What do I have to do to get a drink? I'm easy when it comes to drink. Poor Vodka in a glass, usually over ice, and that's it. Though I'm on the lookout for something else. Much prefer just a straight drink. I don't drink often, but when I do I want something nice.

Welcome Chris!
Here comes Chris
With his lovely wife
Now this party
Will come to life
Vodka's please
All around
The host is paying
For this round
Toscano's no longer
Feeling bored
He went home with (blank)
And finally scored!
Pen's in the corner
Drink in hand
Flirting with the leader
Of the band
Nae said she was going home,
But I saw her in the corner
Writing a sexy poem.

Here comes Ken
Straight off the road
Drinking gin and tonic
To lighten his load
Gina is really busy tonight
And Bbby's bouncers had to
Break up a fight!

The drinks are flowing
Like they're almost free
And whose the best customer?
Old Granny Bea
The barstool feels shaky
And Grandma's achy
So it's home to bed
Sweet dreams to all
See ya tomorrow
In the same old stall!

I really would like to cheer you up. Toscano too. with something Amaretto, and you could teach em about some Cuban drinks. I wish Toscano joined us, Because I have a haiku for the three of us.

Amaretto
My Cuban bar-tending skills are pretty limited I'm afraid. Grew up watching the old men play dominoes on the corner with "una cerveza fria" or just the very common rum and coke blowing that marvelous cigar smoke at each other as if they could hide their opponents next move without missing a puff. Ahh... the good ole days.

I'll take my amaretto with Orange juice... hey hey not so much oj young lady!

here's to us:

add Tosco pastrami, SALT -

2.5oz Tanqueray gin #10
4oz Schweppes tonic water

Stir
Serve garnished with fresh lime wedge.

Sorry Bobby...this was not a physical fight, but a war of words between two good poets, on the merits of free verse over rhyming, and drinking booze straight up vs. mixing it with "antioxidants"!

You staff handled it with aplomb after voices rose a few decibles.

You're doing a fantastic job here Bobby...fame is spreading all over the net...but let's keep it cozy just between us Lits!

Oh, by the way...on second look Alberto is beginning to grow me! He'll take me home tonight!

I get a feeling - I used to get with Teflon Sam - that I am a tad too free spirited (i.e., wild), for this place and Lit org in general. I know I am not the "terrorist" but certainly a "firecracker" - hot to handle? - I think I have made several people blush...
Are you (Toscano) avoiding me? I still think Bobby and you are the party dudes here - I come from a real sheltered background, I need to break out :-) my husband lets me have the car keys...

Slowly, at the rate of my babies' future steps, I am getting back to wine. Merlot seems to always be fine for me. I used to have a glass with lunch and supper, and sometimes breakfast.

So yes, I definitely like people who lead busy lives and know how to handle party life and daytime responsibilities. people who get up early turn me on.

apple wine. Foo-book.
I also lllove, really wuv - apple wine!

I could not make heads or tales on Facebook. I actually written about Facebook on Windchime's post about leaving, and my comment has mysteriously disappeared (:-p) quite a personality club here! - to reiterate what I have said there – it takes so much time for me to get the setting right for my page, account, and then to learn hope to navigate other people's individualized pages and albums and friend lists – that I feel like a slave to Facebook. Like Teflon Sam used to be – he was one of the first ones to use it, when people were still buzzing with mySpace. I remember telling him – Sammie, I am too young for this.

I see that it is a powerful social tool for actors and artistic types who should be visible online too. But most people do not really need it, and certainly teenagers or Tori's fetishists and other married men who see no further than glib and flip writing on Facebook walls.

so - call me too young or too old-fashioned or a paradox therebetween - I could not find out the levitation thing.

I wonder if I should keep exploring in Teflon's foot steps. I know where he moved on from here, and many of the places are not sexy or yummy. But literary places seem to be worthwhile.

meanwhile - to all you fun-loving supermen - good morning's hugs from S.A.L.T.

another reason I can't be on facebook is that I got confused with my facebook account email and password, then started a second one, did something wrong, and got locked out. ever since the system would not let me get a new account using any of my two email accounts. And I am definitely not interested in getting a third email acct just to get on that Facebug.

From what I ve seen on other Lit people's pages open to visitors, that it is bo-ring.

so i'll wait for a major change and drink virgin Maries. I'd like to re-virignize for my husband.

quiet in here currently .. oh well .. the koi are still lurking in their silent pond ...

I'll pour myself the last of the Connemara ... happy knowing I'm not the only Irish whiskey fancier. ...

got an amusing story for you .. a true one which makes it so ... nobody would believe it if it weren't ... I call it the segregation nation landfill episode ...

Victor and Kevin [my son] used to go camping and fishing together a few years back and Kevin has always had an open house policy where friends of all stripes drop by frequently. He's much more of a social being than I am and he thrives on company. Anyhow .. Kevin phoned me to let me know about this or I'd have been none the wiser.
Victor, who's native and his wife Rachenda, also native, dropped by one afternoon for coffee. Rachenda had her nose totally out of joint about a sighting she and her friend had experienced. Her reserve had their own dump and Rachenda and her friend had spied a white man picking through it for treasures. Rachenda told Kevin that they'd chased the fellow away telling him that he should stick to his own dump instead of infiltrating theirs. I mean .. the nerve! Imagine that! A white man trespassing into the native dump!
I asked Kevin if she'd been kidding and he said .. emphatically .. no! She was totally serious!

Off to say hello to the koi .. more later ..

Aperol Spritz

3 parts Prosecco
splash of soda or seltz
Ice, half a slice of orange.

Perfect for the sunny piazza, and koi contemplation.

Bea & Pen
That's a great name for a bed and breakfast: The Bee & Pen. I can imagine their logo, maybe its next door to Gs, so those who have one too many can crash and do a little writing when they awake.

You've got the idea Pen. Here's a sketch:

Our heroine is pale to the point of being unsubstantial. The sun shines right through her, so that she's faded, washed out, or even ghostly during the day. The narrator looks on her and can see her latent beauty, but wonders why no one else can. But is surprised how she transforms at night.

Here are some scraps:

In perihelion sun, her pale attire
willows beneath its weight

Translucent skin, pellucid eyes
arise at night, among the stars

The Valpolicella is good. I still have an empty glass. I'll try and stick around a while, but I have a party tomorrow to prepare for.

I'll just leave my notes here, with the wine. Maybe someone will leave me a love note.

The love letter to the bartender
i feel a certain kinship when the bar is nearly empty and among the few that are left there are no souls who are brave enough to share a last call drink with me. The kinship draws me to the slightly worn out looking bartender who is still sharp witted and remember all of the drink recipes. And he is single?

If ...i could help it, I'd marry you in a jiffy...maybe as a part of a mutual agreement, we'd have an open marriage...and we'd enjoy entertaining real life literary and art types, we'd have a real art gallery in our loft-style sun room with a spiral staircase leading to the bedroom. I'd cook you healthiest and yummiest dishes, Italian for sure, - so delicious you'd fish out all your koi and ask me to cook you my prize-winning gefilte fish-

Luciolina (Firefly)
Thanks Pen! I think we have something going here. I've put in a working title, let me know what you think.

Bobby, thanks for the encouragement. I'm about to step out to the grille. I think some cool white wine is in order.

Vickie, the toast is Irish Gaelic to begin with,in response to pen, and followed with Italian. And its the second time someone has said Byron to me on this site. I HAVE to read that guy.

My take:

In perihelion sun, her pale attire
casts shadowed willow wisps.
Beneath its weight, a wearied gait;
Lingers limply in amorphous faint.

Translucent skin, pellucid eyes;
An apparition in veiled disguise,
She floats among the souls adorned,
Just maintaining her delicate form.

@ Philo
Not keen on the title .. I was thinking along other lines .. but hey .. it will work

Love the changes you've made .. pared it down beautifully.

That's what I found .. will that small alteration work for you? It's amazing how one letter can shift my perspective radically.

Translucent skin, pellucid eyes;
An apparition in veiled disguise,

I slipped in a couple of changes - wearied felt too substantial a word [to me] - I liked the link between amorphous in final line of quartet I and diaphanous in final line of quartet II. What do you think?

In perihelion sun, her pale attire
casts shadowed willow wisps.
Beneath its weight, a withered gait
Lingers limply in amorphous faint.

Translucent skin, pellucid eyes;
An apparition in veiled disguise,
She floats among the souls adorned,
barely sustaining her diaphanous form.

Lo, comes the night; she takes flight.

Lo: comes the night, a sprite takes flight.

Tori the Meter Maid
you are probably aware of the meter building up in the first three lines, but getting disrupted by the "delicate" and "diaphanous". Besides,- in the spirit of Byron and Orwell's "Politics and English", - these places beg for something Anglo-Saxon, whatever that meter is- compliant word: airy, gauzy, fairy, dainty etc

Translucent skin, pellucid eyes;
An apparition in veiled disguise,
She floats among the souls adorned,
Just maintaining her delicate form.

or

Translucent skin, pellucid eyes;
An apparition in veiled disguise,
She floats among the souls adorned,
barely sustaining her diaphanous form.

and so it happens in other stanzas. Maybe the meter is not important, no?

( Posted by: VickieSALT [Member] On: April 11, 2011 )

re: meter
It depends on the poem. If a sonnet ... then meter is crucial .. otherwise .. not so much .. but I'll wait and see what Philo makes of it .. seeing as it's his idea to begin with.

ps .. not a big fan of Byron .. found him slightly limpid for my tastes. I prefer Blake - Keats - Tennyson - Frost - and Robert Service for Northern flair.

TT is learning

I meant to comment on your opinion of Teflon's Trophy (or prize) reference to his wife -

I think the system of values that was the basis for the respect - which you lost – is probably your particular socio-political outlook. Any systems of values wider than that have been intelligently discussed by Camille Paglia as a way of our (women's) defense mechanisms, because the reality is – most wives are not Trophy- or Prize-grade.

I have nothing against the terminology, even though I have been called that, - even if I wasn't – because any man concerned with climbing his corporate-social ladder, whatever that maybe – naturally, I'd say – thanks to Darwin, to be intellectually honest – deserves, needs and ultimately attains his own woman of high sexual capital (see Wikipedia for the definition) – i.e., a trophy wife.

His wife also was not the kind that liked to be called that term, and as it always goes with the women of trophy look that is superficial – are the kind that lose their husbands to the Trophy Tori.

of Meter and Man
Penelope,
Your compilation with Philo appears to be coming along nicely. Tres cool..

Victoria,
Since 'Man' first marched into conflict, the most desirable women have been taken as prizes of conquest. In all corners of this little orb, to this day, men of power and means do the same-
relative, by degree, to their economic position and enviroment.

To many women, the term "trophy wife" has a pejorative, belittling connotation added to it.

Example: Anna Nicole Smith married an eighty-nine-yr-old billionaire. To him, she may well have been a trophy. To many men and women, she was seen as being an opportunistic gold digger..and worse.

Powerful women do the same. They often have much younger, attractive males as lovers and/or husbands.

Now, would you ladies care for a banana protein shake..or perhaps fresh carrot juice?

Ah, what fun! Taking a moment (or two) from work to stop in for a quick one, and to say hello.

Bobby can I get an espresso, a Sambuca, and a glass of water? Thanks for the kinds words, and please feel free to chime in. We all know bartenders have the best advice.

Cheers to Pen (and to Vickie) for the help. Pen, you're right about the name of the firefly. I took the last 'e' off to make it more like a woman's name. More correctly, that move should have been LuciAlina, as Lucio is a man's name, and the 'lina' is a female diminutive.

I've played with it a little and came up with this. I fooled with 'wearied/withered' again too, and plugged in 'fragile' for the meter problem.

un rouge for lunch
I am slowly getting back to wine with meals. Merlot is the best for me, with soft cheeses or meat.
By the way, I see that most people do not know Merlot, I wonder why. Is it because it grows so well in Israel, because of its terroir?

However, after the meal I need a liquid dessert, like a margarita, or pina colada, but sweet - something girlie. Yummie bartenders, by the way :-)

( Posted by: VickieSALT [Member] On: April 14, 2011 )

of Merlot
Victoria,
Here in the States, the medium-bodied Merlot is quite popular. California (Napa Valley) offers a wide selection of Merlot, available in all price ranges.

Clos Du Val (Napa) 2004, is a fine medium-priced example.

Perhaps, it's the hint of chocolate..

Talisker 10 tonight if you please. yes .. I know they have 18 - 25 & 30 year old but I like it a bit less deeply mellow ... a bit more cheeky as long as it's an Islay scotch ..

See? I can't drink and write at the same time .. never could .. so now I've got the April lyrics challenge wrapped up and I was able to avoid the idea that was plaguing me I'm celebrating!

Pen, I hear rumors that after a 5 year absence, Cardhu is now available in the states. I haven't seen it yet, but I'll bet Bobby has some. Can Pen and I get a few of those heavy glasses and a little tipple, Robert? It doesn't have that Islay tang, but its got a lovely smokey smoothness.

adding a hypen to asway seems to work .. are you a hyphen hater?

In perihelion sun, her pale attire
casts shadowed willow wisps.
Beneath its weight, a languid gait;
Lingers limply in amorphous faint.

Translucent skin, pellucid eyes;
An apparition in veiled disguise,
She floats among us thus adorned,
Just maintaining her fragile form.

The ebbing sun loses its power
To quell this Hesperantha flower
She scans the stars in search of peers
to sparkle with for countless years.

On comes the night; she takes flight.
A shining vision of delight.
Her radiant smile a welcome boon,
Awash with light from waxing moon.

Her skin emits a meerschaum glow;
Her hair a-sway in moontide flow,
This winsome sprite with vibrant ways

okay .. I figure the last line should be yours ..

Am I ever glad to see you! After the harrowing incident last night it's so good to see a friendly face!

This damn town is getting too big for its britches I tell you! Cops are too full of themselves and I'm relieved I didn't get tasered! Those Mounties have evolved into a national disgrace!

always the case ...
Even in virtual bars there seems to be those misery guts who thrive on complaining or worse .. expecting everyone else to entertain their every whim ..

Me? I'm plotting how to undermine the local mounties without getting myself arrested.

Nice to know the Koi are always happy.

( Posted by: Pen [Member] On: April 17, 2011 )

of missions & mounties
There is always a motivation..an agenda, by degree.. Here at G's, the motivation/agenda was to create a vibe; a place to visit; a meeting place to bounce ideas around.

..where inspiration comes in varied forms

( Posted by: Bobby7L [Member] On: April 18, 2011 )

hungry for attention!
Bea, don't leave on my account. Long goodbyes must be painful. Just do it the way Lucie did.

the agenda to create a vibe could not really come about, because it is a virtual world. On my arrival I was just being excitedly literary in equating Lit to a boyfriend's favorite pub.

But if any parallels must be drawn between real-virtual - then I know for sure because I have been entertained at a country club - a gentlemen's club/pub/bar's raison d'être is centered on the hope of entertaining and possibly winning a woman. I know this concept is unpopular right here, but that is a warm, bubbly, fun truth :-)

further meditating on the subject - if a bar is not based on that goal, then it is a cafeteria in an institution, non?!

so since I am into a real interaction, I can't play along, so as not to see the agony of 4 posts a day reacting, or possibly not reacting to my ordering whimsical drinks. And not seeing real imaginative literary-sort of entertainment.

And since I am an immature housewife - per Bea - I am off to consult with Sam, to know who's who, and what happened when - I am real smart though!

( Posted by: VickieSALT [Member] On: April 18, 2011 )

clever is as clever does
Let's see .... Joice - Trotzky ... uh huh ... wouldn't be nearly as drastic if this weren't a writers' site. I've always found that those who are really intelligent don't have to inform people of such. People just know because of how its demonstrated on a frequent basis.

Sort of like someone saying .. I'm really scary .. well .. if they were .. it would be obvious and there'd be nobody around to broadcast the news to.

NOT!

( Posted by: Pen [Member] On: April 18, 2011 )

of Alberto
He drives G's shuttle, making sure ladies get home safely, mostly after hours..Alfredo and Paulie keep things copacetic. Anyway, Bea has been getting rides home. He usually comes in early, but lately, he's been showing up late.

( Posted by: Bobby7L [Member] On: April 18, 2011 )

ooo!!
Padrone .. ya can't be subtle with me .. I'm clueless when it comes to .. um ... highbrow gossip[?] Now I think I've got the gist .. like what you are saying is there may be some other service going on and it ain't drive thru?

( Posted by: Pen [Member] On: April 18, 2011 )

No Gossip please!
Well Bobby...please inform everyone that I've employed my college student grandson Slater (who's hungry for money these days) to pick up grandma from G's whenever she's ready from now on!

That should put an end to those "rumors" about Alberto and me! The dear man was only helping me with my shopping and packages and that's that!!

As I first told you, Alberto is a complete gentleman. I'm sure where you are concerned, his motivations are strictly honourable. Gossip..in a bar? [smiling]

The Pseude Intellectuals
If "High intellegence" were the criteria for viewing this thread and trashing it...an intelligent, literary person would KNOW that it wasn't created to write serious poetry here...it was offered, by a REALLY intelligent writer, Bobby L to socialize with and trade quips and generally provide a relaxed atmosphere with other members and keep comments on the primary site to commenting strictly on the work!

It's a place to re-aquaint ourselves with old friends who have re-joined us and to get to know more about our new friends in a personal way. I for one am soo happy to be here with all of you...well...almost! There are always the wanna be's who when ignored, try to force themselves on us and taint the atmosphere.

As to the success of this thread...and the notion that it is boring...why have there been almost 300 responses and ALL of them...except for the lone pseudo intellectual in our midst, intent on formenting chaos.

We've been through this before, as you may well remember...and probably will be again...but guess what...we're still here and thriving!

Yeah Lit and thank you Bobby for giving us an oasis to let our hair down!

Bea

I'm so excited!
I actually was able to 'sing' the chorus for Nevada Blues ... several times without changing a note .. I think ...

of course I don't know if it's a familiar tune ... nor do I know how to use my fabulous Mac to record what it is I'm singing .....

but ... this is a huge step for me! The music was there in my head and now it's managed to make the trip to my vocal chords ... and .. yes .. I can carry a tune for more than two seconds.

( Posted by: Pen [Member] On: April 19, 2011 )

Featuring Bea & Pen tonight!
Hey Pen...how exciting to hear you can carry a tune...hope you are an alto as I am a soprano. If we get together at that oft promised reunion...we can sing a duet...and if all goes well...we can hit the clubs and make some money!

And...who knows...maybe Ken will join us on the Guitar! But I must tell you...MY name goes first on the marqee...you know, age has priviledges! LOL

My voice is absolutely not soprano .. not sure if it's alto either ... I've been told it's smokey ... I think that was a compliment ... was too busy diving for an exit so wasn't sure why he said what he did .. one of those nights don't cha know.

Draft complete!
I have a completed draft! What fun; too bad I got sick in the middle of this project and couldn't keep the momentum going. Well, maybe it makes for a more thoughtful result, eh Pen?

Thanks so much for agreeing to collaborate, and to all those who offered their help as well. It was very gracious of you to offer the last line to me, Pen, I hope it doesn't disappoint.

And no, I'm not a hyphen hater. Even if I were, in a collaboration, one must leave space for one's collaborator, no?

A shining vision of delight.
Her radiant smile a welcome boon,

Is it safe?
I just had to give this place a miss yesterday .. seemed there was this lunatic git down the street with a picket sign protesting all sorts of perceived insults of a second-hand nature. Hopefully the twit has gotten accurate information and has gracefully [or even clumsily] withdrawn. I didn't see him when I drove by but I parked Homer two blocks away just in case he returns with another raft of leaflets to litter the community with. Too bad there's still some litter spiraling around in the leftover breeze of the windbag,

Anyhow .. Padrone .. how ya doing? Hey Gina .. nice to see some friendly faces. One Shanghai sling when you've got a minute.

I'm still waiting for my non-alcoholic Smoothie. Bobby must be busy tonight. I hope he brings me a spoon so I don't get brain freeze drinking it through a straw. Oh! Here it comes...Thanks Bobby, let me try a spoonful...I think I'm in heaven!

Nice place you have here: well-stocked bar, loyal clientele, owner who runs the place with understated creativity. Welcoming. I'm late, of course, but I think you open late? May I carve out a small parallel universe here where I have the time to write poetry? Under the gazebo might be nice. I'll leave it to you to make a martini I'll enjoy. meaningful drinking
red wine this morning Padrone .. I'm going to hold the church responsible for my attitude about drinking on the Sabbath....

so many choices ... hmmm .. shall I stick by my favourite - Zinfandel or shall I add a tad of oomph and have some Warrior Port? Why not. ...

This morning, due to current early morning carousing in our community, I'm thinking about atonement and wondering whether it's a passé concept or if it's possible that the opinion is that everyone else should be held responsible for atoning while lectures are delivered...

It's enough to drive one to drink .. so here I am .. I walked instead of driving .. my atonement deed of the day...

Missing G's!
Sorry Bobby, took a few days off from G's to prepare for Easter Week. Singing with the choir Thursday, Friday Saturday vigil and TWO masses on Easter Sunday.
Our Hallelujah chorus got a standing ovation each time!

Think I'm all sung out for awhile, but rehearsing tomorrow night for my Chorale groups May concert, and our visits to nursing homes and hospital, before then!

I tell ya, the spirit is willing but the flesh is getting mighty weak! Would love to bring the group to entertain at G's, sometime...but they have a "thing" about traveling!

About ready now for one of your delicious, healthful smoothies...you can bring it out to the patio, I have to catch up with Pen and Kacee!

Happy Easter my friend...Salut!

ANZAC Day
THE BAND PLAYED WALTZING MATILDA

When I was a young man I carried me pack
And I lived the free life of the rover
From the Murray's green basin to the dusty outback
I waltzed my Matilda all over
Then in 1915 my country said: Son,
It's time to stop rambling, there's work to be done
So they gave me a tin hat and they gave me a gun
And they sent me away to the war
And the band played Waltzing Matilda
When the ship pulled away from the quay
And amid all the tears, flag waving and cheers
We sailed off for Gallipoli
It well I remember that terrible day
When our blood stained the sand and the water
And how in that hell they call Suvla Bay
We were butchered like lambs at the slaughter
Johnny Turk, he was ready, he primed himself well
He rained us with bullets, and he showered us with shell
And in five minutes flat, we were all blown to hell
He nearly blew us back home to Australia
And the band played Waltzing Matilda
When we stopped to bury our slain
Well we buried ours and the Turks buried theirs
Then it started all over again
Oh those that were living just tried to survive
In that mad world of blood, death and fire
And for ten weary weeks I kept myself alive
While around me the corpses piled higher
Then a big Turkish shell knocked me arse over head
And when I awoke in me hospital bed
And saw what it had done, I wished I was dead
I never knew there was worse things than dying
Oh no more I'll go Waltzing Matilda
All around the green bush far and near
For to hump tent and pegs, a man needs both legs
No more waltzing Matilda for me
They collected the wounded, the crippled, the maimed
And they shipped us back home to Australia
The armless, the legless, the blind and the insane
Those proud wounded heroes of Suvla
And when the ship pulled into Circular Quay
I looked at the place where me legs used to be
And thank Christ there was no one there waiting for me
To grieve and to mourn and to pity
And the Band played Waltzing Matilda
When they carried us down the gangway
Oh nobody cheered, they just stood there and stared
Then they turned all their faces away
Now every April I sit on my porch
And I watch the parade pass before me
I see my old comrades, how proudly they march
Renewing their dreams of past glories
I see the old men all tired, stiff and worn
Those weary old heroes of a forgotten war
And the young people ask "What are they marching for?"
And I ask myself the same question
And the band plays Waltzing Matilda
And the old men still answer the call
But year after year, their numbers get fewer
Someday, no one will march there at all
Waltzing Matilda, Waltzing Matilda
Who'll come a-Waltzing Matilda with me?
And their ghosts may be heard as they march by the billabong
So who'll come a-Waltzing Matilda with me?

Warbling at G's!
Hey Pen...You done good singing that without accompaniment...but get off the table before you fall and break your neck!

Now here's my rendition of Danny Boy...get out the kleenex! But I'll just sit in the corner and sing this one...couldn't climb on the piano if I wanted to!

Whose next???

further from the ground
Better on top of the table than under it Bea ... ANZAC day is over for another year .. one of the finest anti-war songs I've ever heard or sung. When Australia & New Zealand threw off their British mantle and entered the fray as first class fighting men and what a price they paid at Gallipoli - around about the same time Canadian forces were dying with the same fervor at Vimy Ridge & Flanders .. a famous poem ... Flanders Field written by a Canadian. I was required to memorize this poem in school and it's stuck with me all these years.

Reason to stand on top of a table. See .. if one hides under a table one is likely to have their head blown off ... standing on a table may make you a bigger target but at least you exit fighting and look a lot more scary.

I wonder .. all of these thoughts about war .. I think I need another Warrior Port to raise my glass to all of those who died fighting.

I need a smoothie!
Of course it has to be nonalcoholic because of my meds...but you can add some passion fruit for this old GRANNY...Then ask Alberto if he has a younger brother...I'm not into breaking up relationships, and Bea seems to be Alberto's number one squeeze...Good for you Bea...
Uh, Oh! FLASHBACK!!! I remember I had a best friend who thought she had to sleep with every boy (man)I ever dated...I never did that to her...Then I started thinking - Just maybe it was because I wasn't attracted to any of them..Goof ball losers!

Open Mic Night at G's
I've been on a Fiction kick lately, not a lot of poetry coming from the muse...this is the best I could do on short notice:

Bar Fly
By: David Moore

With an easy grace
Sun filled smile
night though it be

and southern charm

She takes care of us
one by one

The customer is always right
except when we are wrong
but that's her little secret

Screaming drunks all clamoring
for their next shot of courage
she does not faulter

Wading through her day (or night)
a vodka halo peeking out
from a double shot
of whiskey

Duty Free Calls

Welcome to the Craftman's Bar
there's room for one and all
The tighter that we all pack in
gives far less chance to fall
Our captain is a pish-head
but his wife is Oh-So-Sweet
Letting grumpy in the corner
supp gently down by her feet

Think he's looking up her skirt
but then the lad's cross eyed
any accusation is very soon denied

Sergeant major standing tall
busy fighting those old wars
Tales of charging on his horse
through villages filled with hoars
Then his life was utter carnage
see lines entrenched on his brow
He is still the one to turn to
find out where what when and how

He's probably tellin Porky Pies
to keep us all in line ???
His Pace-Stick goes where sun doesn't shine

Corporals on a bender once again
forget about promotion in this hole
He will trust us not to tell the boss
he's "Getting Out" going on the dole
For years that's been the lads swan song
when sober we'll follow him through hell
His third tape has just taken far too long
for a job he does so very fu@#in well

Corporal Corporal over here
I think I shot the C#@T!
Lets clear out of here then he would grunt

The drinks "On The Bar" the tender cries
we all know it will all be Duty Free
A single's a double and a double is four
we are right for a bottle or three
Morning is coming we'll be working half pissed
what do they expect for our pay?
If you think you can do any better
we'll even let you take over one day

Don't try to tell the civies
Just go stick out your Chest
The British Army has always been the best

Yo Fairplay!
How about reciting Charge Of The Light Brigade?

( Posted by: Pen [Member] On: April 26, 2011 )

Pen

Maybe you recall I served with the Death or Glory Boys The 17/21st Lancers for 4 years. Celebrated the Battle Honor's each year... Balaclava Day

When can their glory fade?
O the wild charge they made!
All the world wonder'd.
Honor the charge they made!
Honor the Light Brigade,
Noble six hundred!

Of course I wasn't actually there but learned to ride on cavalry horses. Traveling flat out over fields on horseback is exhilarating enough even without the canon.

Traveling flat out in a Battle Tank X Country is noisy and bumpy......

Our REME Moto...... You fuck-em We Fix-em

( Posted by: Fairplay [Member] On: April 26, 2011 )

Fairplay
Of course I recall .. it's why I made the request. My memory still is acute .. a good thing/bad thing don't cha know ..

( Posted by: Pen [Member] On: April 26, 2011 )

Wuo' round?
Well bugger me my glass is dry
no tiger in my belly,
I have to keep this glass full up
'till my legs turn to jelly

( Posted by: ivordavies [Member] On: April 26, 2011 )

No Tiger

Fill up the pool with tiger
it wont please the girls a lot
No chance of finding it too hard
when Brewers Droop Ive Got

( Posted by: Fairplay [Member] On: April 26, 2011 )

Eric,.. You've scored!
Brewers Droop could never be
for Tiger keeps it firm
But I'm afraid that looking 'round
you've got a lot to learn.
No wonder no one bought my beer
I've missed their pension day
are you sure it's G Bars pool
it doesn't look that way.
Do we need a bus pass
to prove our age to drink
Oh look the girl you mentioned
is giving you a wink!

( Posted by: ivordavies [Member] On: April 26, 2011 )

Enough Enough the Vicar cried

Who’s that floating on her back
shouting up at God ?
"This water aint been turned to wine"
it's Anchor beer ! ....... That’s Odd
Ivor asked for Tiger
Eric doesn't care
Theres plenty here for everyone ho ho
so just jump in and share

( Posted by: Fairplay [Member] On: April 26, 2011 )

Randy Bugger

I will pass on the Tiger Beer
you know it makes me wee
I suppose here in this Fish Pond
there none that care.... or see
Oh what tricks or treats in store
It all has crossed my mind
Then Brandy makes me randy
Least thats what others will find

( Posted by: Fairplay [Member] On: April 26, 2011 )

Brandy!
Brandy, now your talking
Bobby only stocks the best
Gina bring a bottle
and then take a well earned rest...

( Posted by: ivordavies [Member] On: April 26, 2011 )

Bobby

Hey Bobby... Look you started it
can you help us with these girls
Kacee was binned on Facebook
Now she is doing twirls
I believe she cooks and Irons
and with a bit of luck
if you catch her while she's drunk
she may just put down her book

( Posted by: Fairplay [Member] On: April 26, 2011 )

Memory

Pens recalling all her past
she led a tough old life
Living Up North in Canada
the struggle and the strife
Knows all about the lumberjacks
they make us lot look tame
Sing I'm a Lumberjack and I dont care
and join in all the same

( Posted by: Fairplay [Member] On: April 26, 2011 )

Lads and Ladies @ G's
Eric,
Kacee doesn't partake. We make her fresh strawberry/banana smoothies.

Please try to stay out of the Koi pond.

Dance with the Reaper
Try to wake the living
I'm sure they're not all dead
though floating in our Tiger
I'm sure they moved their head.

Maybe they're paralytic
and beyond all worldly cares
should we fish em out and dry them
and place them back in chairs?

Is he calling for last orders,
the fellow dressed in black
Oh no, it is the reaper
and he's carryng a sack.

Oh, he says he's Bob's supplier
for he knows the clients well
and his sack is full of whisky
we can drink ourselves to hell

( Posted by: ivordavies [Member] On: April 26, 2011 )

Barred!
I loved the fishy Koi pool
but now we both are barred?
And I thought that our host Bobby
would let my inch stretch a yard.

Please Eric don't annoy him
for he's really is quite fair
there's no knowing what would happen
if he left us both in there!

( Posted by: ivordavies [Member] On: April 26, 2011 )

Book It

Cocktail of drugs the doctor gives
is far worse than any drink
The meds will keep her high as a kite
even with a smoothie I think
You will be welcome just take a look
those eyes are straying from the book

( Posted by: Fairplay [Member] On: April 26, 2011 )

Homeward bound
Bobby thank you for the pleasure
of your poet friendly bar
and the tiger and the brandy,
'tis the best I found so far.
I must love you now and leave you
for my little wife called Joan
as I know she will be waiting
for this drunk to roll back home!

( Posted by: ivordavies [Member] On: April 26, 2011 )

Drying Out

Yes must leave the fish alone
they would cost a Bob or so
Ask the Lord if he can Change
Tiger back to water before we go
Then lets lie in the sunshine
where we can while away the time
Think of other games to play
with all these friends of mine

( Posted by: nitz kitty [Member] On: April 27, 2011 )

not me!
Can't say I've ever been called a peacemaker and I've no problem with that. It's just my nature and .. truth be told .... I can exercise a lot more restraint than I used to. Never mellowed though.

Non-Believer

Didn't quite go to Bed watched TV instead

Thought I was dreaming
when I watched the game
One Nil was never enough
Both teams were good
just one Goalie Superb
My God those lot are Real Tough
Don't believe in defence
so the third was a drag
the losers tried real hard to win
It wasn't a surprise when one hero tried
and a plonker just let the puck in
The end was superb (just take my word)
sudden death is a really bad blow
While glued to the screen I knew I had seen
Canucks show the States where to go

( Posted by: Fairplay [Member] On: April 27, 2011 )

Here Red, Come on Spot
The Koi seem to know who has treats. I Think we have a fish love thing going on...They must think I'm a big Momma Koi...I've had to give Spot a time out now and again as he tries to gobble all the treats..I keep telling him we all have to share...

Here At G's1
When you're feeling mighty low
I know a place where you can go
Instead of heading for your bed
If you want to clear your head
Just go to G"s!

When the world is too much with you
And the rent is overdue
There are people who will cheer you
And share a Beer with you
And if you are a loner
Bobby L (the owner)
Will greet you at the door
(He's a skilled abbassador)
Here at G's!

The women there will love you
When they see you feeling blue
They'll even try to woo you
And stick to you like glue
And as soon as you are able
You'll be dancing on the table
Belting out a drinking song
Feeling like you belong
Here at G's!

When the the party's over
(You may or not be sober)
But you'll have a real good time
And love these friends of mine
Here at G's!

Salut!

Nothing Comes Close

Pooped this old Party
just had to leave
For Pomp and Perfection
thats hard to believe
See there was a wedding
that all could attend
A guy called Willie
(my sons old friend)
Or just an acquaintance
as time passed on by
With the RAF see
Steve helped teach him to fly
Maybe fortune or just good luck
Steve is employed
Teaching pilots to fly Chinook
He didn't get an Invite
Out in Afghanistan
But some must keep working
while others have fun
So whats the result
Did GB show the way
For Royal Perfection
to last one more day
I couldn't believe that
then when it was over
I went outside walking
found a Four Leaf Clover.......

Oh Canada

Osama has gone may God bless his soul
Not that I think either would choose
I drank to his loss while voting took place
Which Canadian Party could loose
One Green got in BQ was a joke
Jack almost jumped over the moon
Blue got majority now in authority
Margaret Thatcher would certainly approve

So back to my drink or rather to bed
Canada is back in safe hands
I can dream of progress no more and no less
Time to get on with the plans
Oh Canada how great thy will be
the future looks bright so it seems
Forget USA they have had their day
Now I'm living the Canadian Dream

we have all now heard enough of your squeals

Action vs. Talk!!
Let's REALLY get together Pen, Kaycee, and anybody else that can make it to a reasonably priced area that is good for most people. I'd love to see my pals and have a REAL drink together...smoothies included Kacee!

We've been talking about it for years, but all we do is talk...whos ready to jump in the pool so to speak? What's up Dave...TALK to us, and let us know what's going on!!! Anybody in the New York, NJ, Ct area, Canada is not so far from here...what say you Pen...and perhaps Lucie would even come....anybody????

In the meantime, save me a spot by the pool, I'll be right there with my merlot!

Rum & coke ,,, thanks so much Gina.

Bea, maybe others have been just talking for years but I've met a few LitOrg members during my travels and discovered an amazing fact. People are people whether you meet them up close and personal or deal with them from a distance. I'm not going to list who I've met because it's of no consequence. What I do know is that a LitOrg convention [for lack of a better word] doesn't register on my top ten bucket list of must do before I die. However, if I ever do my road trip through the USA you can be sure I'll get in touch with you Bea for a drive by visit. Like most writers, crowds of more than three don't ring my bell.

Gawd!
I am so exhausted I don't even have the energy to lift a glass .. so I need a straw with my straight scotch ... um .. Scapa today if you please ... my brain hurts just having to think up a drink!

I've taken on a mammoth task which requires me to rake up all the gravel in my yard .... lay down plastic and then shovel the gravel back on top. Why didn't I decide on this originally when I hired a dynamic duo of strapping young men to convert my yard from grass to gravel? Because I foolishly believed that landscape fabric would do the job it's supposed to. Not only was it more expensive than the free lumber wrap I scrounged from a builder's supply store and even though I chose the BEST of the lot .. within a few months weeds began growing ... this was 2009 and while I can afford to hire someone to do this .. I'm retired .. so what else should I do with my time?

huh .. scotch tastes weird when sucked up ... maybe I can lift the glass now I'm slightly revived .... .......................................

phew! That was tough ..... another! Please!

( Posted by: Pen [Member] On: May 18, 2011 )

0530 shift ...
slurp .......

ahhh!

Anyhow .. I drag my sorry ass outside early early because I don't sleep past 0400 and I prefer being out of the sun .... so ... today I worked ... five hours at the side of my home which has the rock garden I built in 2007 and has cement slabs which unfortunately weigh too much to be a breeze to lift and too little for me not to be able to hoist them. My fingers ... hands are cranky for being abused by dirt and gravel and sand and now I've had to start wearing gloves ...

this is only day three of this project and it will probably take me all freakin summer! I chose the side of my home to do first because it requires the most work .. if I left it to last it might never get done ...

slurrrrpppp ... ah! another please!

Mr. Heron and all of us.
Bobby,

Sometime around 1998, I guess, my then-wife and I were invited to go see a Gil Scott-Heron show at a place called Kimball's East. in Emeryville, California, by my work-friend Patrick, who is from Belfast, and his wife. I told him that I had not heard of this person, Gil Scott-Heron, but he assured me that this man was well known in Northern Ireland.

The venue was very close to where my wife and I lived, so it was easy to agree to the joint date.
The place was a large tiered supper-club kind of place with a good stage.

All of us had a fine time watching the show: eating, drinking beer, and snuggling in the dark spaces with our mates.

Years later I saw a report that Mr. Heron had been busted at a crack house; I believe in Harlem. I, myself, have had times (not with crack) when I have have been open to such vulnerability. I still struggle with this kind of thing.

As you say: RIP.

~ John

The Revolution Will Be Live
I first heard his "Small Talk at 125th and Lenox" when I was a 17-yr-old college freshman, in 1970. His spoken-word style predated rap. Later, he would be called the Grandfather of Rap, which he did not care being referenced as..

Heron's "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised" could be heard floating from dorm windows..along with Jimi's "Voodoo Child" and the Who's Live at Leeds.

wunmoranatzit
Okay, I'll come in and check the place out. I think I'll find a quiet corner, if there is one, and have a beer; a nice dark German brew is my preference, but even Shiner Bock will do. Just heard the news about GS Heron, so I am remembering when he said it was winter in america. Will only be here until I feel a certain kinship with the koi and will belt down the last beer and leave before the relationship deepens. Stop and say hi if you want, but you need to do most of the talking. Oh, and bartender? Keep the change.

Name that Muslim Nation
We're currently involved militarily in five Muslim nations:

Afghanistan
Iraq
Pakistan
Libya
Yemen

Most likely, we also have boots [CIA/SpecOPs/Contractors]on the ground in Egypt.

Which Muslim country will be the next one the US military will be involved in, whether "kinectic" or otherwise?

Here's a G's Island Tea. It's tall and hits hard.

Salute

( Posted by: Bobby7L [Member] On: June 10, 2011 )

Which Nation?
Turkey keeps jump on and off the "black list" for military travel. I don't know, perhaps Iran will be next,(God help us) or possible George (although not Muslim I don't think)

Hell, the way its all going to hell on a shutter...who knows?

Let me see if I can translate that:

Turkey is "jumping"

and its Georgia, not George. LOL

( Posted by: HeRoCoMpLeX [Member] On: June 10, 2011 )

Onward, Christian soldiers
Georgia is a mostly Christian country, the Muslim population being only about ten percent, I believe. If we go there, we'll be fighting the Russians.

Our relationship with Turkey has cooled, to be sure.

Iran is behind/supports/arms our enemies. They want to destroy Israel. Do the math.

Syria, Saudi Arabai, U.A.E., Bahrain..

Take your pick.

( Posted by: Bobby7L [Member] On: June 10, 2011 )

Take my Pick?
Truth be told my friend, I'd rather sit on my couch and watch the whole thing on CNN. I'm tried of being sent to every crap-hole desert on the planet.

Can't we go to war with the Tahiti or something?

Bora Bora
GI's took it during WWII.

How about Arizona? At least you'd actually be/remain in country.

( Posted by: Bobby7L [Member] On: June 10, 2011 )

Arizona
A desert is a desert is a desert.

I spent more than half of my time in the Marine Corps in 29 Palms, Ca which is in the middle of the freaking desert. They are all the same, I've been to the Mojave, Sahara, Iraq, Kuwait, and South Texas. I've not noticed a lot of difference except for sand consistancy.

U.S. deserts suck just as bad as Middle Eastern ones. Maybe we could invade Venice, I've never been there and I hear its beautiful...Hell, we invade everyone else for no logical reason, I'm sure we can come up with some reason. (dripping with sarcasam)

Viva Italia
GI's invaded Italy in 1943. The Allies suffered 320,000+ casualties. The Germans suffered nearly 660,000 casualties.

closed for renos?
Seems it's been pretty quiet around here lately .... however ... weather is letting me take a reprieve from my rock piles and other yard chores,,, Ever noticed that when one if occupied in the yard other items keep coming into view .. like the blackberry brambles that invade my back yard ... like the magnolia tree hasn't had a trim in 3 years ,,, like additions to the greenery such as winter and summer jasmine .. yellow climbing roses ... a new decorative metal screen .. transplanting azalea .... whacking away at the trailing honeysuckle that grows off in all directions ... and on it goes ,,, but .. today thought I'd drop the nasty business of bundling up cut back blackberry vines and other slashed vegetation in favour of a sangria ... do you have any Maria Sangria today

( Posted by: Pen [Member] On: June 27, 2011 )

Fresh peaches..
Greetings Penelope,
Your project appears to have expanded..

The red wine, ginger ale, lemon and orange are a good start, but the peaches make the Sangria Maria.

peachy!
Wonderful! ......sluuuuurrrrppppp .... YUMMY! heh heh ...

by the way Padrone ... have you ever noticed that labour fanatics and right wing nut bars have a lot in common?

actually that wasn't what's been on my mind of late ...

Postal workers in Canada can go on strike unlike the USA. This time job action was limited to rotating strikes ... Canada Post is a 'crown corporation' which means it's at 'arm's length' from government .. however .. after a couple of days of rotating strikes Canada Post locked out the workers! Then it got the federal government to legislate them back to work with a smaller wage increase than what Canada Post had offered. There was a filibuster implemented by the opposition and debate raged for 60 hours! Not only that but some of the noble MP's who support workers did so on their province's cultural holiday of St. Jean Baptiste ... to add insult to injury the legislation requires the Union to notify workers to return to work even though they didn't impose the work stoppage ... sheesh!
Mr. Harper and his cronies are keeping true to their anti-worker agenda. .... now he has a majority he is running amok!

one large scotch .. no ice .. no water ... Scapa would go down a treat.

It's official! I'm now known as the rock lady in my neighborhood! How cool is that?? My project is now 1/2 done and due to weather I'm at ease today. Yesterday I dug out the Californian lilac which had overgrown it's quarters .. I've created a new home for it by fashioning a large oval [in the center of my pebbled front yard] ringed with boulders strategically placed to look random. I don't know why it's more difficult to be haphazard. As far as I'm concerned I'm no creature of habit and yet .... when it comes to handiwork hodgepodge is out of my mental loop.

No "Lean" @ G's
Gina has been getting requests for "Lean,"/"Sizzurp"/"Purple Drank"*

G's *Liquid Offerings* does not offer this hip-hop/hood favourite

Also, saggin' pants are not permitted in G's, though you may roll up your pant legs to dangle your feet in the koi pond.

*"Lean"

Codeine
Watermelon-flavoured juice drink (Arizona Tea brand)
Skittles

Skittles are added to bottom of cocktail to take away medicinal taste
