Nothing Changes

Kipling told of Tommy’s plight
just one of many sent to fight,
now spurned by all as lowest scum
despite the battles he had won.

Cannon fodder one and all
useful though, to save a fall
sent to fight, spurred by a lie
expendable if they should die.

Civilians now are used this way
it saves them giving soldiers pay,
for now the rich are very wise
and much more crafty with their lies.

When people for their freedom fight
they’ll give their lives for what is right,
but once again when war’s been won
will they be just like 'Tommy'.... scum?

There is no change, it stays the same
only how they play the game,
those with power control the day
and scum like us, just pave the way………

You are quite right Ivor

"those with power control the day"

It's hard to stop anyone from turning from leader into megalomaniac.... using friends as they would money.

I like you style of poetry because it is educational or at least tells a story... not just a flower arrangement of clever words...

Oh!! and because it has Meter (whatever that is) and Rhyme

cheap crusaders!
Thanks Eric,

At least soldiers get paid for helping the rich get richer.

'For Queen and Country' bit like another religion?

Todays events prove it's easier to stir up emotions and a lot cheaper!
