Sorry, if I was asleep at the wheel, but from January 24th to February 6th, Amazon is running their 2011 Breakthrough Novel Award contest. I would have announced this earlier but I was pretty busy with Christmas.

They will accept 5,000 submissions in two categories: general fiction and young adult fiction. Your work must be 50,000 to 150,000 words. They request a pitch, an excerpt of 3,000 to 5,000 words and the complete manuscript. It's all done through their website.

The two grand prizes are a publishing contract with Penguin, which includes a $15,000 advance. Six finalists will be awarded with a trip to New York. A maximum of 500 second prize winners will receive a professional review and a coupon to use on

To register, you must have a Createspace account which is easy to get.

Good luck!

Thanks for commenting JetfireK!

They don't take poetry or short story collections, but if anyone has something from NanoWriMo or any novel length fictional story, please consider entering!
