Lee Greenwood, was actually a draft dodger who fled the USA for Canada in order to avoid being drafted to serve in the Vietnam War.

WHAT??? You are saying that the songwriter of GOD BLESS THE USA, more popular among the song listening population than GOD BLESS AMERIC or THE STAR SPANGLED BANNER, was a draft dodger and rejected the American way to avoid the draft in Canada? Yes, it is true.

Personally, I don't like the song anyway, no matyter who wrote it, because it just sounds toooooooo phony.

I also add the following; I have attended many military functions where the song is played. The instant the song recording starts, you will notice that the soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines that were standing at a proud state of attyention, immediately begin to slouch, some grimacing expressions on their faces, and almost always, some audible moans of disgust and displeasure, why? Because they hate the song BECAUSE IT WAS WRITTEN AND RECORDED BY A DRAFT DODGER. Most in the military consider him a disgrace, a coward, a draft dodger and a traitor.

On the more political side, many people applaud Lee Greemwood because he had the convictions to sacrafise his own public image for what he believe3d to be right for the nation. Next to the heroism of the Medal of Honor, he wore his convictions for all to see, and only returned to the USA when the Presidential pardon came through for all Canadian living drat dodgers. Do you know which President issued this pardon?

NO DRAFTS ALLOWED 2010
This is what I do know. That after 911 Lee Greenwoods song was the only song, period, that represented America.

Then as fast as lightning all the singers, Celine Dion and others raced to the studio to sing patriotic songs.

Therefore I for one appreciate Lee Greenwoods efforts and his song...It could be that he did not believe in that war? It could be that he lives by Thou Shalt Not Kill....

Judge Not....that's all that's important....
