_Hollow Sound_

Ah, 'tis a hollow sound:
The shouts of aggressive joy.
The overhyped soldier who thinks he's won a war;
Oh yes, he's won the skirmish,
But the war?

Ah, 'tis a hollow sound:
The propoganda from both sides.
The newsmen who think they're being objective;
Oh yes, they report the facts,
But all of them?

Ah, 'tis a hollow sound:
The chatter of excited rifles.
And the patter of frightened feet;
Oh yes, we liberated them,
But the cost?

Ah, 'tis a hollow sound:
The politicians' changing tunes.
The leaders who think they're doing right;
Oh yes, they did the right thing,
But the right reason?

The chatter of excited rifles
I can't agree more with the sentiment behind this piece but as well as this I liked the succinct and direct style. 'The chatter of excited rifles' - love that line! D*
