Numbness tickles my mind
I have nothing anymore
except that image
of you
cold hands
turned warm
as they wave
goodbye

You said you had a dream
your promises spilled
and I let myself
drown in them
knowing
there was no air
and no hope of mouth to mouth
bringing me back
from distances
dark
with no beaches
or sunrises

I've shed this skin
that has kept me clothed
and with it
I lose so much of me
and all of you

naked
cold
pained
and wondering
what truth
20 years has taught you

This road is sharp and hard
on these bare feet and body
that do not move now
but wait
for a call
from your dead phone

square
Words capture the 20 yrs. in few words. Though 20 yrs. in one square brings wisdom of a situation.
