What is love anyway?

One would think that falling in love is the best,
That because there are millions and billions of poetry, music, movies and T.V. shows showing the joys and hurts of love, love must be worth pursuing.

Is this true?

What is love anyway?

Some people say that when they’re in love, they feel euphoric, so what is this?
Well, this feeling is caused by a rush of the neurotransmitter dopamine in the nucleus accumbens.

Some people say that when they’re in love, they have butterflies in their stomach, so what is this?
This is the result of the increase surge of dopamine causing the sympathetic nervous system to become hyperactive and shut down the digestive system.

Some people say that when they’re in love, nothing else in the world matters, so what is this?
This is caused by over stimulating of the nucleus accumbens and hypothalamus as well as the under stimulation of the amygdala.

Some people say that when they’re in love, they long for and miss the person they love, so what is this?
Tolerance; after prolonged exposure to a joyful stimulus, the brain develops tolerance and needs higher and higher doses in order to generate the same effect. This joyful stimulus makes us also not want to be separated.

So what happens when that stimulus (your lover) is taken away or leaves?

Parasympathetic nervous system kicks in, your digestive track kicks into overdrive making you want to eat. You crave carbs because carbs are easily converted to serotonin, a neurotransmitter involved in depressing the CNS and relaxing you. Your brain halts dopamine production and your hypothalamus and amygdala kick into hyperdrive. Your body fills with stress hormones like cortisol and epinephrine, and you slowly destroy your internal organs and your brain from this fluctuation of hormones. Furthermore, you go into a deep depression and all you want to do is sleep, die, and cry.

So what is love anyway?

Well, from this perspective it would appear to be bipolar disorder.

Re Love Is A Brainwishing
I just made it to the 5th line thought I'd respond before reading the rest, just to show my intelligence or lack there-of. LOL

Love today, more than anything, is a mass brainwashing. Love sells everything and anything, and keeps Hollywood busy raking in more money than there should be in the Universe.

One more thing: LOVE SUX.
Now I will go back and read the rest. LOL

Re Bipolar Love
Bipolar, huh? Well I can go along with that. LOL I wrote a song called BIPOLAR, after doing some volunteer work at a prominent mental hospital and listening to some kids in their late teens who had been determined to be Bipolar. Beautiful kids who should never have been there, but it takes millions, even billions of dollars to keep the place open, so doctors bus them in it seems.
Anyway I put the Bipolar lyric here today, but ending line comment on the WHAT IS LOVE ANYWAY, I had a girlfriend I really truly loved and told her I loved her with all my liver, but she never believed it.
hmmmmm
