Life is like an endless beach
My mother's mother charted
the first and faintest path
Away from the sun's reflection
fires sleeping in the sand
My mother followed in her wake
She found the line between
the shallows and the land
There she stamped her footprints
to stay tomorrow upon tomorrow
until I too stand on the sand
and fit my feet into her echoes

This is a lovely poem. I'm sure your mom was touched. I always think poems are that little bit more special when they have been written for someone. Its like giving a lyrical rose; always appreciated.
