TDM episode 8 and 9 got uploaded. We have a long way to go, though. Episode 9 was another ensemble episode which got good reviews.
This week Liz and Jonathan followed Christine into the world of REAL-TIME episodes. Liz made her debut as hostess with the 400+ fans on our TDM/Facebook site. A very tough job. Jonathan began making video responses to viral videos as Brian on You Tube.
Ii want to talk a little about why the work Liz, Jonathan, and Christine is so vital to the success of TDM in a bit.
But I am happy to announce that a new actress has been cast as London for TDM season 2. Casting by far is the most stressful process for a producer/director. The fate of any show rests on successful casting. The casting for London was brutal. The competition was fierce, yet no actress could nail the character of London down.
Disaster was lurking and on the eleventh hour the last actress who sent the next to last video, completely A-bombed the competition. It is a holy moment indeed, when a new, unknown talent is discovered for the first time.
I was reeling from the performance with my mouth totally open.
The audition was so good we are now releasing it on Facebook and on You Tube, but in an unusual way.
Indeed the era of the distributive web has arrived. The TDM website, which we put so much energy into has become irrelevant for now. All our traffic is on Facebook and You Tube, so we are taking our contest agenda there.
The web is like a nervous system with critical nodes that can be pushed and surfed. So a breakthrough can be anywhere now. TDM is now a hybrid of classic sitcom episodes above the fray and real-time reality show webcam uploads below the baseline of the classic sitcom.
The opportunity to start video fuguing between these two levels and within the real-time episodes is basically infinite. Cross-pollination of videos between YouTube and Facebook is also infinite.
This is entertainment in the 21st century.
Jonathan and our new actress will soon be doing some crazy video fuguing.
But there is more....
The structure of season 2 is being determined right now by this You Tube scooping. I studied systems thinking as a student at UC Berkeley and saw that all natural systems were fractal in nature. Patterns repeated themselves in a self-referential way both in human and non-human systems.
The pioneering work of Christine and Jonathan in these 30 sec TDM comedy labs are part of a bigger process that can be tapped throughout the entire cyber/video circulatory system now emerging.
Hollywood cannot win here because we're dealing with a new media and entertainment paradigm. The silly stuff on You Tube is just a natural growth of this new paradigm. TDM is at the cross-roads between the old and new.
I'm totally cool with this.
