I once saw my heroes on the printed page
They made noises like “Pow”, Arghhh” and “Ooof”
They were larger than life and drawn to be precise
One might conjecture in their portrayal, a spoof

In the fifties and sixties some of my idols
Fought ferociously on TV in black and white
There were few plots but lots of guns, swords and horses
Always there was a conflict of wrong v.s right

Today, these figures appear in technicolor on the silver screen
Though are technically more impressively presented
Their characterizations and dialogues are over-worn
Their creators are lacking the spark of invention much needed

I no longer have those super heroes I adore
The present offers no one so great as before
Maturity and overexposure to life unfolding
No production of media has given me a worthy encore

I feel nostalgic for the radio dramas with great vocal and sound effects
At least in this format, there was ample room for imagination
My juvenile mind could conjure images of great valor
The loss of creativity in entertainment renders in me a vacuity of mental motion

This one brought me back. I wonder at the imagination of my children and grandchildren for not being able to sit in front of a radio and listening to 'Inner Sanctum' ,the 'Whistler' or the 'Shadow'. Maybe that's why fewer people read. Sigh! I guess we who read and remember will just go the way of the dinosaur. ;)
