Silent, he stands, at the crest of the hill
In armor, dented and worn

His hair is matted, eyes downcast and grim
His face, drawn and forlorn

How vibrantly his banner had flapped in the wind
Now it hangs so dirty and torn

How the crowd cheered him on with rousing bravado
Now he receives nothing but scorn

In the name of these people who so despise him
The greatest burdens he has borne

Lonely, rejected, outcast, alone
Abandoned with his great loss to mourn

Departing he was known as the Knight of the Rose
Returning he is the Knight of the Thorn

So true Eldros!
So True of Vietnam Veterans Eldros...thank God, our current veterans won't suffer the same humiliation.

While we hate the war...we love our boys who are putting their lives on the line for us every day!

Great Poem!
