Building castles in the sand
Bucket, shovel, pat of hand
Golden-haired child, skin well-tanned
Towers sprouting from the land

Wary of the water's rise
Dig a moat to stem the flow
He knows of the castle's ultimate demise
Yet still he makes the sea wall grow

The waves come forth with furious foam
Dissolving towers and walls with ease
Crumbling the ramparts that made his home
The sea does go where the sea does please

The sun sinks low into the west
Another day, another failed test
Is it hope or is it pride
That will make him return tomorrow:
to try, again, to stop the tide?

Building castles in the sand
Bucket, shovel, pat of hand
Golden-haired child, skin well-tanned
Towers sprouting from the land
