I am beside myself with joy and excitement, and I had to share this with everyone.

I got the contracts on my book proposal! I just signed them, and will be skipping my way to the mailbox soon.

[Well, maybe not skipping! I'll save that for when the advance gets here!]

Now, all I have to do is finish this book, and have it formatted per their guidelines and on my editor's desk by June 1, 2009, so it can be released 9 months or so after that.

Between the hospital, litdotorg, and my writing, I have more work to do than I can handle. It's going to be a long, grueling four months.

But I love it!

Thanks for letting me share this with you all!

Sandra: Thank you!

An update: I just heard from one of the other publishers I submitted the proposal to. When I got the Inner Traditions contract, I wrote everyone else to let the know that IT offered a contract on the first book of the series, and I was publishing with them.

Well, one of the OTHER publishers wrote me this morning. They want to know if the other 16 volumes are still up for contract.

Happy day, indeed! I'm very thankful for this opportunity! At their very core, my proposed (and now, contracted book) are collections of short stories based on oral, Yoruba myths; and until the past few years, I haven't taken short-story writing too seriously.

And, again, thanks for letting me share my good news and happiness with you all!

@Ochani Lele "contract update"
Success does not come by sheer chance or mere dreaming. It comes through hard work and power of will. Your talent is strong. Congratulations.

@ Boudica
Thanks, but sometimes I feel like a hack.

A lot of the short story writers on lit are far more talented than I. I read their work . . . just to learn!

But I do appreciate your kind words!

Stuart's CONTRACT,eh?
Come on now, Stuart, yes, there are many talented writers here, but you my dear are published several times over and now are up for another 16 book contract to top the newest contract book you are currently working on...

Ego is not a part of my spiritual belief, yet, I have it, we all have it, it is a struggle, but heck, there is nothing wrong with shameless self-promotion, just ask my sister Goddess LinnieRed...hehehehe!

You did good, Stuart, as so many here are doing very well too, we get what we want and what we deserve, you deserve this, you worked for it, you wanted it. You got it.

And like Sandra has said on other posts, some do not aspire to be published (such as moi) and write for different reasons, but those like you and others that are published or aspire to be, WELL GOSH DARN IT, I am proud of you in being there...

amazing news
Take a bow, Stuart! Feel the exhilaration, enjoy this major achievement. For years, when people were impressed I had earned a university degree despite a chronic illness, I'd say, oh it only was a bachelors. When they said, you are a fabulous painter or that they enjoy my writing, I'd say something humble too.

Well, gosh darn it, YOU ROCK!

Contracted: O. Lele
I recently closed a contract with CBS Records. I need buy only 6 more selections in the next 12 months.

I like your contract better. May it satisfy your writer's need for acknowledgement as well as line your pockets. Remuneration equals recognition. Keep up the good works, and GET BUSY.

ps: You may not skip to the mailbox but you may actually laugh all the way to the bank. I saw somebody do that once but he was either on a cell phone to a comedian or simply unbalanced.

Congratulations Stuart!
Good for you happened because you believed in yourself and your talent, and had the courage to persevere.

Unfortunetly, too many of us do not have that courage!

So happy for you!

@ Everyone!
I would like to thank everyone for their good wishes! It means a lot.

And I'm sorry I've been so absent on litdotorg. Work and writing ate up my month!

But, I'm back. I go on a vacation soon. And I'll be here more often.
