A/N: Another goodie from my archives...thought it could bear repeating in this climate of War under the banner of religion!

One God

Why does the mention of god
Evoke denial and debate
Bigots lead the way
Spewing epithets and hate?
We are ALL his children
No matter what our sect
Whatever we may call him
We all deserve respect
Our god is universal
The creator made us all
To live in peace and harmony
Reaching out to those who fall
We ARE our brother’s keeper
All made by God above
Rejecting war and hate
Living side by side in love

AMEN!
Amen, amen, amen! What you have conveyed in this poem is a flawless depiction of God's role in everyone's daily life. I can't imagine what is going on in the minds of the bigots who seek to erase God from society. How is it that people can stand to live without believing in someone with far more power than themselves and the power to protect them, guide them through life, and care about them? I can't live a productive, meaningful, moral, or promising life without God by my side all the time.

poewhit
People enjoy there lusts of fancy. They deny GOD to make it easy for them to break GODS laws. Though a moments pleasure, they deny, SPACE ALIEN GOD, and look for little green men who come from space. Not realizing, GOD comes from space. AND, we have only scratched the outer eggshell of space. ETERNAL LIFE with GOD.[and we think we know it all ]

Aubri & Poewhit
It goes all the way back to Adam and Eve. When God created man...there were rules to follow...just one...don't eat the apple. They disobeyed...hence were banished from Heaven.

This may be metaphoracle...however, ever since, down through the years...isn't it strange that whenever the universe doesn't obey God's cardinal rule of "love one another" the result is war and destruction!

We are our OWN destruction...let's not blame it on God who gave us free will!!

God is alive and well!
John...as in my comments above, far from being in a coma...God is very much alive and grieving for his children.

He doesn't ask much of us...just to be kind to each other and help the least among us...not to anihilate each other in his name!

The keys to the Kingdom are available to all who follow these simple rules, whatever our sect!
Why is it so hard to follow them? God gave us free will...it is up to us to use it for good or evil...knowing there are consequences.

@ everyone
I'm hoping no one saw it, but there was a very derogatory comment posted here in this thread. It wasn't focused on the work; instead, it was a slam against anyone with Christian beliefs.

I deleted the comment. Because there were no comments responding to the inflammatory piece, in my mind I'm thinking no one had the chance to see it but me. If anyone did, I thank you for not being baited by it.

I want to make it clear: Litdotorg is a writing forum devoted to writers and writing. Although I am not Christian in any way, shape, or form, I welcome ALL genres of writing, including spiritual pieces from the world's myriad religions. And when I comment on a piece from another faith, I restrict my comments to the writing, not the theology presented.

I will tolerate criticism of an author's writings in this forum. I will not tolerate derogatory remarks aimed at a writer's religion or spiritual beliefs. Call me a dictator if you wish; however, I won't have it here. I enjoy reading about the spiritual lives of other people involved in other faiths beyond my own.

That's all I wanted to say. I'm sorry I hijacked the thread.

PS: Bea -- as always, your poetry is elegant. I'm very happy you've chosen to share it with us in our forum.

Sticks and Stones!
Thanks Stuart...I didn't see it...but you know the old saying.."sticks and stones" etc don't hurt me...nothing or no one can shake my faith in God.

Thank you though, it's nice to know chivalry isn't dead at Lit! regardless of the content!

one God
I started reading a new book today that focuses on Celtic Christianity. In the preface the author discusses it in terms of "before the Papal influence decided to tidy things up with rational thinking". I am not opposed to churches for the charity they bestow, but too often, the schisms based on prejudicial and narrow thinking cloud the message of unconditional love which I sincerely want to believe is the essence of the nature of the God of my understanding. Thanks for the heart-felt poem and your replies to comments. Stephanie Millican

Eyes on the prize!
Thanks Stephanie...there is good and bad in ALL religions, depending on individuals who are running things at the time...but it all revolves back to God, and his teachings...like they say...always keep your eye on the prize...God who gave us life!

The Best... love this!
This may be my favorite poem so far on this lovely Lit.org! I too share thy sentiments, Sister Boyle. Beautifully expressed in this way.

Thanks Reverend!
Thanks Reverend.

If we ALL lived our lives according to the tenets of our religions, which preach peace and love for our fellow man (even the Koran teaches that)this world would be the paradise that God (or whatever you call him)intended!

@Beatrice "God"
Who is not for peace? In every true warrior there lives a poet's heart who longs for peace. What fool believes him/herself above the spiritual laws of righteousness and justice? What arrogant intellects dare believe that he/she can exist without a soul?

Arrogant Intellects.
Unfortunetly Boudica, there are too many of them out there these days...most of them belieiving they are the only rightous ones, and wage war against believers.
