(my MOOD on turning sixty)

behold my star
which guides the rich men
to my manger
here in WalMart's alley
next to the dumpster

I will give them
an old SubWay roll
to turn into charity
an empty crack vial
to hold their humanity
ask them to embrace
the rats and roaches
and all the beasts
of delirium

then born again
I will perform miracles
with a broken bottle
blood into wine
wine into blood
death to satiate
all their longings
for my kingdom
I will make them pray
I will forgive them
their trespass

yes praise me all
on this my day
in sin and ecstasy
take up my cross
aflame in rapture
the pennies on my eyes
the final light
of the final truth

then depart from me
to spread the word
among the faithless
and the innocent
whose damnation
will be blessed
with a sweet corruption
from the secret corners
of the heart and soul

I will follow
I will make for you
a work everlasting
an altar of lust
a darkness to challenge
the heavens

Happy Birthday Petey!
Turning sixty
Isn't so bad
Really no reason
For feeling sad
There's a lot of life
Down the road ahead
You're not done yet
Rolling around in bed
There are all those widows
With nothing to do
They will track you down
And smother you!

You may start losing
A little more hair
A few more wrinkles
That weren't there
Your teeth may be
Starting to lose
Their bite
You may even store them
In a glass at night
But Petey the man
Will still be
The same
A warrior in life's
Little game
Life isn't about these
little things
It's all about love
And the glow it brings
Good family, Good health
Some really good friends
And memories you'll cherish
Before this life ends

So don't despair
And give up and fold
But I have to agree ARE getting Old!!!

Happy Birthday anyway.

My new Jesus
Great reflections here. I hope that, when I'm turning sixty, I can gather my thoughts and present them as eloquently as you have. Not there yet, in neither years nor ability. ;)
