You are not me,
But you haunt me.
You are everywhere,
Your presence is...
It's so _there!_
A mirror that is not me
It shows me what I should be -
What _they_ want me to be.
Tight fitting jeans from hip to knee
Bikinis displaying so much _flat_
Instead of showing too much fat.
T-shirts showing off curves
But voluptuous hips are for the birds.
We should fit into a mould of lies
With big boobs and skinny thighs,
Little waists but long legs
That slide into the industry's beds -
Whores to advertisements on TV
Make-up gods who want us skinny.
You got long hair, cut it short!
You got a pudge, that lard we thwart
With 5 hour workouts every other day -
Don't be realistic - we'll show you the way
To be beautiful in everone else's eyes.
Starve yourself til your own demise.
We'll harass you with guilt.
For every tear you've spillt
We gain and we gain
While you should lose in pain -
Lose weight, tone, and trim
The most beautiful body is one that is thin.
There must be some souls
Who reject the mould
Who see me as unique
Whose curiosity my physique does pique:
My body just the way it is,
Separate from the fashion, movie, TV biz.
There must be someone who appreciates it (and me)
A glorious mechanism that we plainly see
Encompassing life, blood, electricity;
Warmth, passion, nurturing, to a high degree.
My skin, so strong, yet soft and smooth.
My lips that kiss, whisper, and soothe.
My hands that have slaved but also caressed,
My bosom, my limbs, my stomach and breasts.
They are not like yours - no,
But they are _mine_, so -
Retreat with your impossible expectations
Leave me room to breathe, room for appreciation.
Depart and leave open the path for those
Who appreciate me for me - from my head to my toes
