Stratus Report

The leaves smell already
Of the dirt from which they grew
As they fall upon my face
As I'm looking on up through
Black and crooked branches
Like cracks in a dream
Which leaks to space
Escaping
Where I lie by this stream
Half into a track
In an impression shaped like me
Receiving
Even as I'm giving back

Autumnal Reflections
Sounds like a perfect autumn day to me. Love the title and:

"Where I lie by this stream
Half into a track
In an impression shaped like me
Receiving
Even as I'm giving back"

What you're giving, I take it, is appreciation. Perfect gift.

Viper: Perhaps
Or, it's an ashes-to-ashes kind of thing.

Or, I am not alone, and am peering past another, who is atop me.

Or,...

Eyore (voice deep and slow)- "Thanks for noticin' me."

Strate of play
I'm with Viper in admiring your title. Very elegant.

I dropped in here on the offchance and found something simple and soothing just before sleep, just when I needed it. Lucky me. The autumn branches 'like cracks in a dream' are really very evocative. In fact, the whole effect is somehow... painterly? I also like the pause-for-breath effect at 'Escaping'. It syncopates the stream of thought just sufficiently but not too much.

Whether you are alone with the soft ground, or in company within this poem, I imagine the feeling is the same.

Thank you, Caitlin
I am always glad to hear from you, and to read you, as well.

More to you, some day, I feel.
