God rest ye merry, gentlemen
may nothing you dismay
the last of light is dying
and the dark comes out to play
down by the cathedral
where the poor men fear to tread
a light still shines eternal
for the memories left for dead

God rest ye merry, gentlemen
may nothing you dismay
from candle's warmth to grave's embrace
to help you on your way
in horse and carriage, dignified,
throughout the night to roam
a shadow of forgotten times
a moment without home

God rest ye merry, gentlemen
may nothing you dismay
through the bitter cold of night
a tune begins to play
the stars which rain upon us now
shall fall to earth some day
God rest ye merry, gentlemen
may nothing you dismay
