English poet and metaphysical person, John Donne said it best: ‘No man is an island-‘ John Donne’s Meditation XVII-
For if we want to achieve a goal in life, we need help from those who might be in a position to assist us in one way or the other.

And this presidential elections year saw a democratic political candidate and now the official Democratic Nominee, Senator Barack Obama waste one opportunity to obtain the help that would ensure victory come November. And what he, Senator Obama did not do, Senator John Mccain did, he acquired a female running mate.

During this democratic primaries, Senator Hillary Clinton nabbed eighteen million votes. Sexism and harsh feelings towards the Clintons aside, if you are the Democratic Presidential Nominee, would you not choose Senator Hillary Clinton to be your running mate to ensure that those eighteen million votes are yours on election day?

Apparently Senator Barack Obama did not think so. So when Senator John Mccain and the Republican Presidential Nominee chose a woman, Sarah Palin, to be his running mate, many persons in our midst must have thought this to be a wise move.

Although this does not necessarily mean that Senator Mccain will nab most of the women voters, be they democratic or republican supporters, he just might nab those who still strongly support Senator Hillary Clinton.

For when it counts on election day, it just might come down to this, who knows? Some may see the choosing of a female running mate by Senator John Mccain as being a wise move indeed, whereas others might now look at Senator Barack Obama and think, well, he could have had eighteen million votes on his side, but let it slip by not choosing Senator Hillary Clinton as his running mate.

We will see come election day in November 2008. We will see.

Hi
Hi Judy

Perhaps out here in the East we've been far more accepting of women leaders.

Ceylon ( Sri Lanka ) was the trailblazer in this regard : Sirimavo Bandaranaike was elected as the world's very first PM ( after the assassination of her husband Solomon W.R.D. "Sword' Bandaranaike). (Their daughter Chandrika ,subsequently rose to become President of Sri Lanka.)

A few years later ,India elected Indira Gandhi as PM.Save for one interregnum ,she had a 16 year run as PM. Her daughter-in-law Sonia ( Italian born ) has been ,for nearly 5 years ,the de facto head of the Indian Government. We also have Jayalalithaa who is the unquestioned supremo of one of South India's most powerful political parties. Finally we have Ms.Mayawati ,who is tipped to be the next PM of India.

But then how can one forget Ms. Thatcher , the Iron Lady , who bestrode Britain like a Colossus for nearly 11 years. And who continues to cast a very long shadow over Britain : not one of the main political parties could ever dream of any kind of departure (radical or otherwise ) from the core policy framework she put in place.

One thing common to all these women leaders was - they were hardly shrinking violets. In fact ,they were steelier ,and made of far sterner stuff, than the men around them.

I do realise this is lese majeste of the most egregious kind ( given that they are the 'greatest race ever') but Americans do not appear to be all that 'evolved' with respect to the acceptance of women as leaders.

Eric, speaking of going to the potty?
Yes, the woman Palin or whatever her name is, is fuuny to me as choice for VP, McCain is truly senile, a war monger, choosing women that has no creditability and if currently being investigated for some political shenanigans, but you won't here that on BIG BROTHER run news...nope, by the way, have you heard the names she gave her 5 or so kids? WTF? Does she hate her children or what, those names will be with them their whole lives, Bristol as in the pharmaceutical company? What kind of name is that? Or does she owe corporate pharmacueticals a favor, maybe?

What has sex got to do with it!!!
Hi Fairplay, gees, this sounds like a good question for the Obama Girl.

Obama Girl, Eric & Judy...
Hahaah! I loved Obama girl, I too am an OBAMA girl only not as cute, young and sexy. Good article Judy, but...McCain hasn't a wise thought or move in his campaign, he has already lost, the picking of a woman to replace Hillary, what a joke. Hillary is a powerful woman, Palin is joke...how she ever got to be head of anything in Alaska probably has a lot to do with giving of much head. And Eric, I think you are right, Hillary should have put Bill out on his rear after what he did to her, but I suspect that Hillary and Bill's relationship far transcends traditional marriages involving love, I think they are best friends first, the other stuff second, but that is my opinion, who knows what goes on behind closed doors in someone's private relationship.

Wierd? Eric...Obama & posting here?
I sent you a reply that your link was funny the little Obama and the big Obama girl...funny, but it didn't show up unless there is a delay and I am not repeating the post. Anyway, too bad you missed the youtube.com video Judy is most likely speaking of here, it was on many months ago, then I guess the powers that be decided it was a bit much and removed it....all the poor OBAMA girl did was love OBAMA sing, shake it a bit, and not any real harm that I saw. I liked it anyway.

( Posted by: TheRealKarmaTseringLhamo [Member] On: August 31, 2008 )

Nope, your link Eric,
Led me to a little boy playing Obama with a big Obama girl holding him as his speaks...swimming pool...nope, the one I saw ages ago, Obama girl was walking through the streets of a city singing and being sexy about her LOVE for OBAMA.

( Posted by: TheRealKarmaTseringLhamo [Member] On: August 31, 2008 )

Adolph after Obama with guns....in the news you rarely hear.
OK, Eric, I found on that same page a swimming pool one, but the title is what I titled this comment. Obama girl vs McCain girl

Sorry Judy, Eric got me going. You present intereting points, but like I said before my belief is that McCain made a mistake in his choice of VPs---like you said, we shall see what happens on election day, but I believe that Obama will win hands down...though I also believe his life is in great danger, did you hear on the non big brother news that some gun toting types where heading to Denver to kill Obama maybe? Yeah, sort of skinhead types one was named Adolph. Stopped and busted by the police or FBI not sure which. Spoken of ver breifly on the web and on the quickies news section a week ago or so.

( Posted by: TheRealKarmaTseringLhamo [Member] On: August 31, 2008 )

danger
True, Fairplay, but I am sure Obama knew the risk he was taking when he decided to run for president.

Just wait ...
I'll reserve judgement until Bristol comes out with her tell-all biography of her mother.

Judy R- Furthermore...
Judy,
re my previous comment:

I must apologize for letting the "bristols" obscure my view of your article and for failing to comment on it.

I cannot envision Hillary as Barack's running mate following the acriminous primary season. She would not add balance to the Democratic ticket, nor likely serve as second to any man excepting her husband, which was strictly for political reasons- I see no other reason for her to have tolerated his behavior except for political expediency.

In my opinion:

Hillary has too much "negative" attached to her to be elected president.

Most Hillary supporters, in the end, will not be willing to support the McCain/Palin ticket, as they become more familiar with Sarah Palin, her views, and her actions in office; as well as McCain's plans.

I perceive Obama as the more effective agent for positive change- incremental, not instant change. The Beltway resists change.

I realize that you and millions of other Clinton supporters are disappointed and/or disillusioned, but McCain/Palin represent more Bushism.

Having said that, I must admit that I dread the prospect of a McCain presidency less than I did of G.H.W's lesser son; but the thought of a Palin presidency, should McCain's health fail, truly frightens me.
