“News At Ten.” announced the TV.
“More doom and gloom.” commented the husband,
“It’s not all bad news, dear.” replied his wife.
“Good evening,” greeted the newsreader, “A solar flare of unprecedented size will soon destroy all life on Earth.”

was it wrong
to laugh out loud at this? it's funny, because I think we like to imagine that when the end comes we'd be doing something heroic, something dignified, something cosmic posterity worthy... I think we've all seen too many disaster movies... when the end comes most of us will probably be just sta on our arses, watching TV, picking our feet...

yes, this made me laugh. I'm sick, clearly. thanks for this.

if you're sick.....
...then so am I. Originally challenged myself to try writing a story in 50 words. Heard people moaning abt. news media fascination with bad news, the badder the better - and thought what would be the worst possible news?
And so this item was spawned in the warped regions of my twisted mind. Glad you enjoyed.
Next ep. of Fear will be a little while yet. Prob. by end of next week.

I agree with AuldMiseryGuts
This is a really eye-catching piece of writing, i read it over and over atleast ten times. It's much more realistic that a wife and a husband would be sitting there watching the news and accepting it, rather than running out into the streets and finding a bomb shelter. This is very clever and so is the quote at the end of all your works.

Apocalypse
I, too, enjoyed it. I write short fiction, but I need more than 50 words! It's great that you can do it.
