A Short Story by G.S.Vasukumar
It was twenty minutes past twelve o’ clock in the night, there was cold wind blowing from outside his window, ruffling the pages of books on his study table. He stood near the window of his room, staring outside at the dark sky. His heart was filled with sadness and pain of having lost in the game of love.
His mind recalled those wonderful memories of being with her and remembered her name, Sanjana. Rahul had dreamt so much about her. Now, she was someone else’s love. Jealousy had crept into his heart and mind. Sanjana wanted to continue friendship with him after their love ended. But he couldn’t be normal and her best friend anymore, as he couldn’t stand to see her happy with another person. It started hurting him a lot.
He then looked at the beautiful pink rose in the small garden in front of this room. She liked roses a lot and pink was her favourite colour. He went and sat on his chair before the study table and started deleting all her mails, snaps from his laptop. He started composing one last mail to her.
“I hate you for what you did to me. I will never forgive you for the rest of my life. You had dumped me in love and speak big things about friendship.”
He clicked on “Send” button and deleted her contact detail too. How he wished that he could delete her memories from his mind and heart as well. But sadly, he couldn’t do that. It would be his curse for the rest of his life.
He pulled his drawer of his table and took out a test tube which contained the deadly acid in it. His jealousy made him to get it. He had thought to punish her for what she did to him. He would meet her and throw the acid on her face and make it ugly. She too should repent for the rest of her life for breaking his heart.
The wind blew inside through the window again; ruffling the pages of his books. This time a picture flew out from one of the books and landed on the floor.
He picked that picture and looked at her smiling, innocent face. How could he destroy this beautiful face which he loved so much, he thought. He had a drop of tear in his eye.
He would have done something terrible the next day and repent for the rest of his life. He threw the test tube out of his window. It hit a small rock in the garden and broke into many pieces. The acid in the tube fell on the rose plant and burnt the beautiful pink rose flower.
