Dear M,

I was reading my second biography of Walt Disney and looking at old You Tube clips of Disneyland and continue to be amazed by the contradictions of Walt Disney. Walt Disney was a creative genius of the first rank. He could be remembered for just one of his creative achievements, but he made multiple contributions to many fields.

He created an industrial form of virtual reality which kept me completely enthralled as a child. But Walt Disney also had an extremely toxic personality. A notorious racist, anti-semite, anti-communist, and FBI informant, ( The majority of his FBI files remain classified .)

Waly Disney also was a notorious union buster who used organized crime to get what he wanted and intimidate his animators. Walt Disney was also a chain-smoker and alcoholic who was on the constant verge of bankruptcy, He had multiple breakdowns and hogged all the credit for his major achievements.

Walt Disney was not a nice guy, but alas his visionary mind is impossible to dismiss. The way he created a global mythology with every form of new technology at his disposal. My hat is off to Disney. He was a master synthesizer.

Even Lucas and Spielberg looks small compared to Disney.

Life is so, so gray.
