Just published, as an ebook, a collection of short stories - "Vampire Tales" 50p a copy on a website, www.lulu.com. The site only takes commission (20%) when a book is sold, as a download in my case. Not sure about sales of books as hard copy but I think that ebooks are a better idea anyway.
You can sign up to the site for free and the uploading, book-cover design, pricing processing are pretty straightforward (even for a pc idiot like me!).
You list your interests and the site will help find online friends for you. There are also group that you can join. As far as I can see, this is NOT vanity press. You're not paying them to publish your work, they're just providing a market stall for you to set out your work and make money from it.
The site provides tools to help you promote your book BUT this time at a price so be careful about going down that road unless you can afford it. I'll be trying to get some more 'shorties' together and publish them, as well as poetry collections. Don't worry fans of 'Fear' - I'll be posting up more instalments as soon as my keyboard is sprayed with coolant!
Take care y'all
