In the false light
of a flat white
moon, I beckon to the old
soldier. 'Old soldier!'
I cry;
'tell me! - - - - - - Why's
there no Buddhophobia?'

Black and White

I hear the Old Soldier Cry
I’m an atheist you know
Religion is trite
So I do it right
The order to fight
It comes from within
The excuse is quite thin
What colors your skin?
Racists don’t know God
If that should sound odd
Pray tell what religion
is black and white.....

Buddhophobia
Who can possibly be offended by a fat man able to get into the lotus position. One has to admire him just for that! And he can turn water to wine.

OH, wait, that's the other made up figure with excellent publicists...

'FR' you're funny!...Eric, you're funny too! And to the latter, your poem here is first class. If you haven't published this yet, you certainly should....

Extremely pertinent point. In fact it's something that's been nagging me for quite a while.Of course one can come up with the usual raft of reasons -especially the most obvious ( or trivial ) of them : all variations on the 'grass is greener.." etc. theme.

The one that seems the most absurd is : cultures where Buddhism is the predominant religion are ,far less belligerent and more peaceful than the others. Clearly most of the Westerners who espouse this particular view have been entranced by the enormous charm and the winsome smile of the Dalai Lama. What most forget is that another country viz. Ceylon (where Buddhism is the predominant religion ) has, for generations ,been wracked by the most savage strife. In fact it was a Buddhist chauvinist S.W.R.D ('Sword' ) Bandaranaike who very cynically let this particular genie out of the bottle -way back in the late 50s .Ceylon ( Sri Lanka ) has been paying a very bitter price for this ever since.

If there is one thing that all religions ( like any other creed viz. Political, Social etc )have in common : it is that they set people at each others' throats - and ,more ominously, come between a man and his God.

Thank you Jaacob for some very thought-provoking words. It's so good to hear from you again.

Colin
You're most welcome . The short answer ,i guess, would be that Buddhism ( like Yoga ) is suddenly 'very cool' and of course the 'flavour of the month'.
