Plot Outline Section A

London (summer)

Scene 1: Heathrow Airport, London – Morning

23 year old Australian tourist Mathew Logan arrives expecting to be met by his mate, Dave Porter, with whom he is going to stay in London before they travel around Europe. Instead, Dave has left a message to meet him at a bar in London – the Horse and Groom. At the information counter we get an idea of Mathew's disregard for the elderly. Also his kindness to children is shown. He has made friends with a boy of eleven on the plane, traveling alone and Mathew stays with him till they meet his grandparents, another chance to show his lack of patience with elderly.

Mathew has suspended his studies (he shows promise as an artist but has decided to complete an economics degree and is currently studying his PhD). May become the BIG decision he has to make.

Scene 2: The Horse and Groom, Fitzrovia, London – Midday to 10:00pm

Mathew arrives but his friend is not there. He decides to wait and strikes up a conversation with Dutch backpacker Ellyse. Unable to contact Dave, but enjoying the company Mathew remains at the bar till he is drunk. At the bar there is also a group of rowdy ladettes and when one makes a move on Dave we see a darker side of Ellyse emerge. They gang up on Ellyse and Mathew, but reinforcements in the form of Ellyse's friends arrive just in time and Mathew leaves with them. They tell him of the other pub called the "Horse and Groom" in London and offer to drive him there. Mathew then falls asleep from the beer and jet-lag.

Scene 3: En Route to Stonehenge Night (10:00pm-ish 1:00am)

Mathew wakes groggily, after unknown amount of time. Short conversation in car about writing graffiti on Stonehenge. Initially Mathew (though drunk) is a little hesitant. But he is swayed when they tell him the real stones have been removed to the museum for analysis and safe-keeping, and the ones at the Stonehenge site are just replicas. Mathew sleeps again.

Scene 4: Stonehenge – Salisbury Plains

Mathew awakes in a stupor. The car is parked on the side of the road beside some bushes. Next he knows he is holding a can of spray-paint and crawling under bushes through a hole in the fence urged on by the others. He and Ellyse head towards the stones keeping an eye on the torchlight of a security guard. Mathew begins spraying while the others go to other stones. (Mathew is intending to draw is a large caricature of the Australian cricket player Shayne Warne holding a mobile phone to his ear and the words CALL ME underneath.)

Just as he starts, security arrives and he is grabbed by the arm. As the security officer shines the torch to see what Mathew has done, Mathew breaks free but in the darkness trips on a slumped figure leaning against one of the stones. More security arrives and Mathew is restrained. In the torchlight they discover the figure is a naked dead man. To Mathew's horror, it is his friend, Dave Porter.

Security has rounded up Ellyse but other three members of the group escape. Police arrive and they are questioned briefly at the site. They are taken into custody and handcuffed before being put into a paddy wagon.

Scene 5: En route to police station

On the drive back to the station, the police wagon is run off the road and the two are freed by Ellyse's cohorts - Damon, Eddy and Georgia. Mathew is torn between handing himself over to the police and going with the band. In these exchanges I want to bring out more of the character of the four member of the sect - The Earth Omegas. Damon must be dominant, persuasive and ruthless. Ellyse must become more manipulative. Eddy must show the influence of his brother, his physical prowess and brutality. Georgia must show her thrill seeking nature and glimpses of a recent unhappy childhood.

Scene 6: Petrol Station

They stop for petrol and Phil overhears the two brothers talking about what to do with him. He sneaks away and jumps in the back of a truck (lorry).

Scene 7: Salisbury

Lorry stops in Salisbury. Phil goes to an internet cafe where he makes contact with Bea. While there, Phil spots one of the cars with Ellyse aboard. He then hides until Bea arrives in her Leyland P-76? Mini Cooper? Morris Minor? Go-Go Mobile? Dart? Something with character.

Bea arrives and Phil tries to explain. Although skeptical, Bea takes him to a nearby friends place – Aleister Viney. Aleister is an old man, but he is ex-British SAS, superbly fit and whatever this crazy Australian is on about, Bea knows she will be safe while she is with Aleister. Mathew is becoming paranoid.

The thot plickens....
