O pray, ne'er forget by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we grilled at the twilight's last gleaming,
Whose juices from folk-pricked pink flesh in the twilight,
O'er griddles we watched O so gallantly streaming;
And the coal's warming glare; fat bombs bursting in air,
Gave all proof through the night sausage-lovers were there;
But tell, have those star-spangled bangers yet gave
You guys hellish-like heartburn? Next time let's microwave!

"O'er griddles we watched"
for some reason that phrase really tickled me. I think it was the use of the word "griddles"... you don't hear enough griddling in every day life...

being vegan barbeques are always pretty tortuous events for me, and there’s something about the beer-swilling cave-man machismo of sun-burnt men poking charcoaled meat over an open flame, that has never honestly appealed… I think on reflection I’ve given this way too much thought…

thanks for the fun of this.

Shannon, that was a very interesting take indeed, considering things (in this case cooking bangers) from a vegan's perspective. I'd not thought of it in that sense at all.

Many thanks,
