‘Please I don’t want to talk about that issue. Leave it…. u will never understand me’ said Sushma and ended the conversation abruptly. ‘But sush…ple….’ There was no one at the other end…he soon realized it and was thinking about the last night argument with his wife Sushma. He was trying to recall what his fault was exactly and how it all did started.

But was interrupted by a colleague then ‘Rahul can you join us for the systems meeting’ Working as senior software developer in one of the reputed companies in USA.
His wife was working as Credit Manager in reputed Financial Services Company.
It was 5.00pm then.

Sushma was thinking about her husband’s last night behavior…….analyzing and questioning their relationship. Her mind had come to a blank wall now doing this process. She wanted to come out this for a change. Cooking good delicious Indian dishes was her real stress buster. She then thought to decide the menu for the dinner that night.
She said to herself ‘Yesterday I prepared palak paneer and dal makhani what should I prepare today. Shall I prepare rava-dosa? Rahul likes rava-dosa a lot.’ She instantly forgot her little rift with her husband and indulges herself in cooking.
It was 6.30pm when she completed her cooking and was about to garnish the sambhar with finely chopped coriander.

She thought of Rahul. And decided not to talk with him when back from work. She loved him a lot. And next minute thought of scolding him and asking for an apology and then finally forgiving him if he says sorry for 5 times.
She called his cell but his cell was switched off. She thought he might be in meeting.

Now she was back in good mood because she was sure that Rahul would say her sorry for sure. She was listening to her favorite old music- piya bina piya bina ratiya……from movie abhiman and was humming along.

Rahul normally come home by 7.00pm.

It was 7.15pm now she really wanted to talk with him. The song carried her away and this time she didn’t care even if he wouldn’t say sorry. Rahul’s cell was still switched off. This time she got a bit nervous. But thought he might be busy or might be just angry with her. She thought let me prepare the chutney and call him again.

She opened the door so she could hear his car coming. Normally she would open the door when he comes, but today because it was late she thought of keeping it open.

It was 7.35 then. She had then completed making the chutney. ‘Why is he still not home? Even if he left would office at 5.30 he should be here by 6.30 –7.00. Why is he not yet home?’
Now she was desperate to know. She tried his cell again and again. It was switched off. She got worried. She was thinking of last night unpleasant argument over getting new cell phone for him. Rahul had the same cell phone from last 4 years and had some sentimental values attached to it and did not wanted to dispose it off where as Sushma wanted a new cell phone for her husband

She called Tom one of her husbands colleagues to know what time did he leave. Tom said he left at 6.40 10 mins later because of meeting.
She thought even he was 10 mins late he should get home by 7.15.
Now she was more worried now. She tried quickly to call her husband. The cell phone was switched off. There was no one now she could call and get the where about of her husband.
What would have happened to him?
Would he be safe?
Would his car have enough petrol? (Gosh…..she never thought of the car petrol any day before)
She started to think all possibilities that could lead him to a delay. She came out of the house and stood at the door anxiously staring at the street she had now lost all her patience. All she wanted was to hear Rahul’s voice and to know he is safe or not.
“What do I do now?” she asked herself.
The office was 25 km away from her suburb.
They did not had any relatives their as they were migrated from their home country before 3 years.
She was feeling very helpless. She again tried to call her husband this time she tried it continuously and was walking bare feet on road now. She walked till the beginning of the street. But can’t see her husband coming and waited there for 10 mins watched each car with the eyes of hope. She thought she should go back because if her husband comes then he will find his house closed and would worry more….

She was praying for Rahul’s safety. Unknown fear gripped her mind. She pleaded God let him be safe. I will never fight with him again. Her Eyes were moist thinking how much she loves him. She thought of calling helpline and asking for help and check whether they have reported of any accident on the Centennial Highway. She started running with this thought. Her legs were shaking. She was sweating out of the nervousness.
She went inside the house but come back again to see if Rahul had come .She calls the helpline and asks if there is any accident and they said ‘Yes’. She could not believe her ears. She asked ‘what time? Was it a male? Where have they taken him? How did it happen? What is his name?’ She asked all possible questions. ‘The person was driving on speed of 100 in 80 zones. It happened 1 hr back and he has been shifted to near by hospital’ they replied. ‘Which hospital they have taken him to?’ she asked
She then heard a car stopping by.
She ran out of the house and saw her husband……she started crying loudly. ‘Thank God u r safe…….why are u so late? You could have called me once. What happened to your cell phone? What time u left office? Why didn’t u call me?
Why is your cell phone switched off? She hugged him tightly and cried again……
Rahul looked at her, she was crying like a small baby. He kisses softly on the forehead. He carried her inside. Placed her on sofa and brought water for her she was still crying. “I was caught in a traffic jam as there was an accident.” he said
She gave him a angry look and he said ‘tomorrow morning first thing I m going to get myself a new mobile’
She looked up, gave smile and again hugged Rahul.
