When I was a little girl, one observation I did make was that the toys boys got were more interesting than the ones we had. They had the high tech and or battery powered toy cars, trucks, toy guns, and a range of other playthings that actually made some noise.

Those toys the boys had made our tea sets, dolls, doll houses and illustrated books seem boring in comparison. So when some of us girls became bored with the tea set, dolls, or doll houses, we usually placed them in a far corner of the closet and never took a glance at them again.

And even though there are many girls out there who may still want the dolls, tea sets and doll houses, there are many of us who may have preferred the high tech, noisy toys too.

And all someone has to do is take a quick look around him/her to observe that most girls do like their high tech toys too. They like their IPODS, video game systems, even the portable ones, cellular telephones, PDAs, Blackberrys, HDTV, surround sound, and yes, some of us even know what it takes to make a Touchdown or a three point shot.

Of course, it was also a time when most parents and guardians did not ask their kids what they wanted. They usually went by your gender. Obviously if you were a boy, you got the toy cars, trucks, video games, and other things that were capable of making noise and the girls got the quiet or talking dolls, doll houses, and tea sets. And there was nothing wrong with that.

Most parents who bought their kids the gender related toys just wanted their girls to remain on the feminine path and the boys on the masculine one. Technology and the times have managed to change all that. Thank Goodness!

For some girls like and have liked the high tech, noisy toys too. And it is refreshing to note that gone are the days when the greatest misconception about girls used to be that all of them wanted to play dress up, did not care too much about sports, and should be quietly tucked away in some corner of the playroom, toying around with their dolls.

For some are also into the high tech, noisy toys and sports too.

Peace and unity begin with all of us- Judy Ramsook

Hi Desvelado,

And thanks. No the books were not boring, but some of those toys were.

My Godparents once got me a Crochet set. I'm not the crocheting type so I did not consider that to be exactly a toy.
