The enchanting stories, 'Puppy Dog Tales', are the nearest we'll get
to the memoirs of a dog called Floyd. If you are new to Floyd the Dog then there is a treat in store for you as he shares his high
adventures and antics with us in his own, unique, way. He takes us
along for the excitement. It is tempting to compare this book,
favourably, with animal stories written by other authors. However I
feel I would rather find my own words to describe this unique book. It
is loaded with life messages. Learning is everything in the world of
the growing dog. If Floyd has to learn rules then so too will our
youngsters absorb them through reading these gentle and enjoyable
Tales.

Who is this Floyd? He is a ginger dog. It is for the reader to decide
if this a good dog or a bad one. Mind you, right from the start, one
is on the same side as Floyd who is forced to leave his family behind
in order to seek his fortune in the tough world of the 'Professional'
dog. It is worth remembering that it is through testing his
circumstances that we can work out his measure. What we hear about
Floyd is gained through what he says/barks himself, what others
say/bark about him and his subsequent actions. Reading the book we can quickly grasp what kind of fun character this ginger dog is. In
reading the chapters we build up a complete picture of Floyd. For
example, in 'The Hold Up', Floyd shows his metal and gets recognised
for his bravery right there in Marco's Bar. (I wish I'd been there to
see the action and to drink the dark red wine).

I am sure that both youngsters and adults can relate to the adventures
of Floyd. The stories are easy to read, they have style with an
internal voice making us experience everything about Floyd and his
impressions as if we were ourselves inside his skin. The length of
each chapter is well measured and sharp, giving us the urge to follow
up on each incident and to know what happens next. This all adds up to a book that amuses, entertains and educates. I'd like to let teachers
know about it so they can recommend or read it to their pupils.
I have also tried reading the stories out aloud when I've been on my
own. It works well. The stories are full of drama with good subject
content, and well balanced description, action and dialogue. I'd like
to see these stories moved into the exciting realm of audio-books -
'sound printing' with the added enhancement of stereo-effects. The
mind is staggered at the prospect of these stories landing up
everywhere in the world for people to listen to and enjoy. And that's
not a bad thing. I think all pet owners and vets ought to espouse
these stories because they show the effect animals have on us humans.
