NIGHT

What is this fuzzy
cold ball whose silky
skin is strength
indeed,

Whose dark expanse is
set to rescue,
these twinkling stars
that stumble in
their sleep.

when I post
my old stuff, I do so with a certain sense of trepidation, with the knowledge that it isn’t quite as good as I thought it was when I wrote it… that said, I do post old stuff when I come across it, as some of those poems are significant sign posts on the journey the writer took to the creative place they are today, and I enjoyed this poem on that level…

of the poem itself, the second stanza appeals most to me, the mixture of textures in the first left me a bit confused; how is something fuzzy AND cold AND silky…? but then, the night is multi-facetted, right? and full of conflicting and contrasting elements, the shape and texture and consistency of which are always in a state of metaphysical flux… still, something about the image jarred with me… though I’m willing to admit the fault’s probably mine and not the poem’s…

second stanza I really liked, particularly “set to rescue”, because it allows the reader a glimpse of something they don’t see very often: a nurturing darkness… a beautiful, maternal image. thanks for sharing.

Uh....
Hi Auld....

Your comments are always welcome.

Poetry is about clash on so many levels....that's why it's so precious.

Think comet for the first stanza...

The second think spiritual salvation.

Now I wish I had kept quiet.
