I just want to share my thoughts with Senator Obama and his web community....I hope this letter gets to the Senator himself....
I was born 1958 in California so I’m close to Senator Obama’s age. I graduated from UC Berkeley in 1983 and have traveled all over the world. I studied political science, film, and systems philosophy.
I was a volunteer for Senator Gary Hart in 1984 in his failed bid for the Democratic nomination. I met Senator Hart and also his campaign co-chair person Rep. Patricia Shroeder. I learned a lot on that campaign. It was dirty politics, but also exciting to be part of something bigger than myself.
I also briefly corresponded with Hillary Clinton in 1992 before she was famous and with Al Gore in 2000. I met Al at a futurist conference in 1982 and knew he was a visionary, but not a great politician.
OK, that’s my political background.
I watched Gov. Dean’s campaign from a distance in 2003 and realized that Senator Obama was take two this year. The use of the internet to get people together and raise money was the big thing in Gov.Dean’s campaign. It was like watching the Wright Brothers build a plane. Senator Obama is now attempting a moon landing.
He gets it. Web politics PLUS caucus smarts on the ground. Gov Dean didn’t get this. The Clintons do well in big states where TV is king. But this top-down approach is not enough. That’s why they are going to lose.
Now it’s getting dirty. So Senator Obama has to go on TV in Penn state and give a fireside chat and be intimate with the people of Penn state and tell them straight and look into their eyes: This dirty stuff is NOT what I’m about. I’m about EMPOWERING people....
But after Senator Obama wins the nomination and then defeats McCain in November. He has to think about governing with the internet.
Get two million Americans to e-mail their congress people and tell them WE WANT HEALTH CARE. This is going to smash the six hundred lobbyists who are blocking this. Use TV and the internet to FORCE CHANGE.
Senator Obama like myself has a global vision. Not unlike JFK. The next step is to invite the world to an e-talk.
One step at a time.
