No one dares enter those woods anymore
For the stories that are told of there are enough to scare
Any God fearing man or woman to their very core
It is said that a long time ago, in the good old days
There was a family who lived on the edge of the woods
A mother, father & daughter
The man & wife were quite old & set in their ways
Their daughter however was opposite to them in every way
A free spirit who possessed a beauty that of none youd ever see
In all your born days
With glorious flowing hair
Skin that was flawless and fair
And big brown eyes that captured any mans heart when she stared
Now her parents were always telling their daughter to stay away from the woods
Saying that their stern warnings were for her own good
But those woods always seemed to have an irresistible pull
So one day the girl slipped into the cool morning mist
She made her way into the thick of the trees
Getting hypnotized by the dancing leaves
Suddenly she stepped on a twig and it made a loud snap
Like the sound of a cracking whip
She looked back to see if the sound had been heard
But nothing stirred
The only thing that she could hear was the songs of the birds
In the trees above
She kept walking & walking until she reached a clearing
A beautiful blue lake sat in the middle
Surrounded by beautiful wildflowers of every shape and colour
Sunlight that was peeping through the canopy of trees
Dappled the soft green grass
Giving it a brilliant sheen, making it seem like glass
A sweet smell perfumed the air
While a soft breeze gently played with the girls flowing hair
She approached the lake
When a stronger breeze blew, enough to make her shudder
A distant rumble sounded
A sound that she recognized as thunder
Dark clouds started rolling in
So she decided to leave
Suddenly the mightiest gust of air
Knocked that beautiful girl of her feet
And she fell into that lake
It took her by such surprise
That she struggled to rise to the surface
But it felt like something was holding her under
She thrashed, struggled to breathe
But as she fought she felt her will & strength leave
Suddenly her body relaxed, her life was taken by that lake
As her heavy body sank, all you could see floating was her glorious hair
Years passed, no one knew what happened to the beautiful girl
She just seemed to disappear from the world
There were stories of course
But no one could back them up for sure
One day a traveler was passing through
On his way to the inn in the next town
He asked a passer by what is the quickest route?
And the replied "why through the woods, but Im not sure if you should"
The traveler frowned then asked "why?"
To that question came this reply "because the are numerous stories about those woods, thats why"
The traveler the gave a smirk "oh I dont worry about stories or superstitious talk"
With a cocky laugh he kicked on his horse
And headed toward the path that lead into the darkened woods
That was the last anyone was to see of him
As he never made it to that inn
They say he found the same lake
That did take the life of the beautiful girl
And the same fate did befall him too
They say if you dare enter those woods at night
When the light of the full moon shines strong and bright
A grisly site will great you eyes
As two skeletal specters roam the clearing by the lake
And fill the night sky with their mournful cries
