When I see you,
Your eyes rich and dark,
Innocent and sparkling,
Like a puppy waiting to play,
And that smile slides
Across your lips,
Grinning like the Cheshire cat,
I know that I canít be with you.
As much as I like
Your hands on my skin,
Your clinging fingers,
Your words in my ear,
I think back to the life I had once,
The hands that touched my skin,
Clung to my body,
And whispered in my ear,
Memories trapped within my consciousness,
I see them clearly
When I close my eyes Ė
I see him.
I donít see you.
I can barely express
This confusion that I feel.
Please forgive me
For hanging on
To something that may never be,
Just like you and me.
