My broken-heart.

My first betrayal.

My love of life.

My fear of criticism.

My ancient rage.

My deepest yearning.

My compassion felt.

My tears of knowing

Her pain and longing for

Lost dignity and self-respect.

Her sexual degradation.

Her self-preservation.

Her confusion and my awareness of

Her denial, her self-sacrifice.

My hidden gentleness still

Inside this armor of

Righteous indignation

Justified outrage

At how much of herself

She lost rejecting me.

this poem
is brave and lovely in its empathy... perhaps not as richly textured as the kind of poetic fair I usually prefer, but something in its brevity was both necessary and aptů an important statement, the poetic equivilant of taking a deep cleansing breath. thank you for sharing this.
