Once upon a daydream
Was never enough giving
For a heart lost and uncared for
Lying between roses and daffodils.
Smiles and tender eyes filled
The spoon making everything taste sweet
And sweeter still
A taste left lingering from beyond this time.
But not beyond remembering
Of yours and mine hands held
Before we knew of hurt and tears
To come and stab when
Our backs were turned.

Once upon a daydream
how true it is that sorrow has a way of sneaking up on you when you think you are at your happiest...

I like most the line "The spoon making everything taste sweet" because it tells that nothing was really eaten, there was no substance, just an illusion, a fairy tale, a daydream... all in that one little line...

bleak, yes, but cleverly crafted, and it does leave a bittersweet taste.
